CLAMP, xxxHolic, vol. 7 (Del Rey, 2005)

A spider holds a grudge against Domeki, and Watanuki takes the grudge upon himself at great personal cost. Meanwhile, a woman in possession of a spirit-bound photo begs Yuko for help, but Yuko warns her that the price may be too much for her to bear. The series is finally starting to gel somewhat; I get the feeling the ladies were spending too much time with Tsubasa and not enough with xxxHolic for a while there, but it seems this series is starting to get serious consideration as well. I was considering dropping it after the next volume, but this one's convinced me to keep going (unless the next one falls off a cliff). Not bad, not bad at all. ***

Summary of xxxHOLiC, Volume 7

KimihIro Watanuki has a wish on layaway with Y?ko Ishikawa, the sultry time-space witch who can grant anyone's deepest desire . . . for a price! Still, working like a slave in Y?ko's shop hasn't dampened Kimihiro's enthusiasm for his cute classmate Himawari-chan, nor his irritation with his too-cool rival D?meki, the guy who always seems to be around during Kimihiro's most embarrassing moments.

But when D?meki, trying to be a good samaritan, inadvertently becomes the object of a terrible grudge, Kimihiro seeks Y?ko's help. However, the cost for her assistance is steep: Kimihiro would be permanently impaired! Is such a sacrifice worth it for someone he would rather have disappear?
