I'm glad I had a little experience in sewing before I used this book. The instructions are not for the absolute beginner.
My biggest problem was that there is one tiny (three inch by three inch --roughly, I don't have the book in front of me) picture of what the finished garment is supposed to look like in the index page, and no side views or anything like that to show you the fit or the overall look of the garment. Everywhere else in the book are these cutsey line drawings like the one on the cover which I found useless.
I made the tunic dress and tried to find other peoples' pictures of the finished garment on the internet to see where I had gone wrong -- it looks fine from the front (as it does in the intro-page mini pic), but looks like a mu mu from the side -- I look 8 and a half months pregnant!
Also, the 'what you will need' section has a yard and three quarters of lining material, but no mention of lining in the instructions, so I lined it. The dress looked terrible with the lining and I had to cut it out...
The sections do give an overall impression of how to make the clothes, but I would not have bought this if I'd known about how, well, misleading the drawings are...
