Book Review: Surprisingly fascinating philsophy written for beginners

It's hard to tell why so much hostility has been slung at author Joe Vitale for writing this book on Hawaiian spirituality. Natually, it doesn't cover the scope that a real Hawaiian shaman could impart on the ancient art of Ho'oponopono. But that's not Vitale's purpose. All he's doing is introducing mainland Americans to a radical kind of thought. A type of therapy in which all the problems "out there" are really going on inside your head, and it's up to you to make yourself "clean" with the divine--and to love yourself too.
Along with Dr. Ihaleaka Hew Len, Vitale describes Ho'oponopono workshops and his own struggle to figure out what it all means. His writing style is breezy, which to some people must seem not adequately reverant, but I find it refreshing.
A star gets taken off for too many marketing plugs that insult the reader. (What does [...] have to do with any of this?) I don't care if Vitale is a marketer. Too much is too much.
Still, the book whets the appetite to find out more about Ho'oponopono. It was never meant to be the entire course. Take what you like and leave the rest.
