Book Review: A Rare Find

A simple, beautiful, meaningful story with rich, evocative illustrations. Am I going too heavy on the adjectives? I'm a bit at a loss to express how wonderful this book is; and I don't mean just for children. Muth's beautiful watercolor paintings are the perfect accompaniment to the Zen stories told by Giant Panda Stillwater.
Every word is chosen perfectly in the stories, which are then discussed by Stillwater and the three children he befriends.
This is a book both parents and children can enjoy again and again.

I read this to my children last evening. It resulted in a lengthy discussion about anger, giving, forgiving, wealth, and life. A wonderful book with a structure that is conducive to discussion. Divided into three parts with stories that Stillwater tells to visiting siblings, each story is an opportunity to stop and discuss.Book Review: A wonderful book!

I fell in love with this book the first time I read it. It's beautiful, creative, and very sweet. At this point I think I understand it better than my 4 year old but I absolutely love the values it teaches and I enjoy reading it to him more than any other book. This is a terrific books for both children and adults. I think kids a young as 3 can appreciate both the story and the pictures. And even if some of the nuances of the vignettes are lost on some small children, the relationships between the siblings and their new panda friend will not be. This makes a great gift too.
