Book Reviews of Zapped (Regan Reilly Mysteries, No. 11)Book Review: O stars Summary: 1 StarsThis is bad writing. Being a New yorker myself, I had to walk home that day, so I was pretty disappointed about the inaccuracies in the plot. There was no way to call anyone on the phone that day. The only cell phone up was Verizon.
Anyway, the book is a complete waste of time; I was sick, so I had plenty of time to kill, otherwise I wouldn't have waisted a single minute on it. I hope that this 'writer' gets a different job.
Book Review: Zapped Summary: 5 StarsI found this to be a very exciting novel that kept you "reading until the end". A really excellent read.
Book Review: There is one in every crowd...... Summary: 2 StarsI have enjoyed CHC books since she started and enjoyed them as a good balance to her mother's more intense situations, characters, circumstances.
This one, however, missed the mark. In a total blackout in NYC of all places, it rang of fantasy: cell phones operative with no glitches, batteries all charged, finding the correct who, or where. no violence or looting. As I read it I kept interupting my own mind, thinking "this woudn't be happening in REAL NYC.
Sorry, but this one was a disappointment.I look for better in the next book!
Book Review: Fun and Fast Summary: 4 StarsI always look forward to the continuing story of Regan and now Jack. This series is light and quick. When I first started reading this series I made the mistake of comparing the style between mother and daughter and there is no comparison. I then started reading this series for what it is, light, fluffy, quick, alls-well-ends-well and I really started to enjoy it. This particular story tells us about the infamous blackout(in 2003 we lived it here in NE Ohio) and throws in a race against time with a couple of monkey wrenches for good measure. Far-fetched? Yes, but that's not a crime; why does every book have to be believeable? If you want serious, hit the non-fiction stacks. For me reading is my escape, it's pure pleasure and this book and series is just that, fun! I don't want to read about the real world, I live in it. The main characters are likeable, the story is always light and it's a great way to spend a few hours.
Book Review: Not Her Mothers Daughter Summary: 1 StarsIf you love Mary Higgins Clark, don't make the mistake that I did and assume you'll enjoy Carol's writing as well. Her pathetic attempt to create characters and write prose as brilliantly as her mother does isn't worth the paper on which it's printed. My guess is that the publishers are doing her mother a favor by publishing these dull, sophomoric works. The writing on the level of a clever high school student. There's so many uses of the passive voice that it could be a primer for bad writing. And the descrpiton of Regan and Nora are sorry attempts at describing herself and her mother. Don't buy these books if you like good writing.
