Book Review: Little League Instruction:Not Your Typical Book!
Summary: 5 Stars
Okay, I'm convinced! Now I go into each practice
with a list of some of Marty Schupak's drills.
Usually 6-9 drills per practice. Plus batting practice.
And by gosh, this works! We are better fielding, hitting,
baserunning but not quite pitching yet. The point is,
this book presents a plan. All Little League coaches
and parents have to do is implement it.
VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Many times we sports crazy parents get buried with a variety of resources
that contradict one another. What I liked about Marty Schupak's YOUTH BASEBALL DRILLS
was that the book organization made it simple enough to pick and chose different drills
for practice. And the book kind of motivated me as a coach to practice more.
I could of used more pictures instead of the computer figures but that should not
dissuade you from purchasing this fine work!

I've read numerous positive reviews of the YOUTH BASEBALL DRILLS book.
I purchased it and was not disappointed.The book is about 190 pages and includes 80 + drills.
More of a resource book of practice drills than anything else,
you can get much more out of this reading a little bit between the lines.
The book states:
"the main goal of each practice is to actively involve
as many players as possible in every drill."
The author backs this up with a wide variety combining fun with skills.
On batting practice:
"a great way to run batting practice with 10,11. or 12 players is to have two on-deck batters.
One of the on-deck batters can hit off the batting tee on the other side of the fence or in a safe area.
Or an assistant coach can practice the toss drill."
Get the picture? Limited down time for each player on your team.
What, you don't have a field to practice on?
No sweat, the author covers a few Parking Lot Practices.
Author Marty Schupak has taken his 20+ years experience
coaching Little League and has given the reader some excellent
content to work with. We followed this book almost to the letter
and our team won and had fun.

There are 80 reasons to purchase Marty Schupak's YOUTH BASEBALL DRILLS book
if you are a youth baseball coach. The 80 drills are presented in such simple terms,
that I even understood them. And the drills will keep your team interested in baseball.
Let's be very candid about this. If you are looking to get to the Little League World Series,
there may be a better technical resource. But if you want to give your players a chance to
grasp the great game of baseball from the front edge of home plate to the furtherest point in the outfield,
do not hesitate a second. Do whatever you can to get this book ASAP. Your choices may be your local library, Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
Read it! Make notes and make your list of drills that you want your team to experience.
Five must-do drills for your team:
1) Third Base Drill-Excellent warm-up.
2) Reaction Drill-Combines reaction with eye hand coordination.
3) Rapid Fire Drill-Increases reaction time getting rid of the ball while also helps footwork.
4) Relay Drill With Buckets-Reinforces correct relays with the challenge of knocking down buckets.
5) Baserunning Sign Drill-Two sets of bases saves time. Reaffirms kids learning signs.

In any given generation, there are but a few personalities whose creations can survive the ravages of time. It is rarer still when a key resource is written, recognized, and celebrated. Marty Schupak's YOUTH BASEBALL DRILLS is in such simplistic form, it should be required reading by every single parent, coach and Little League in the world. What it may lack in technique, is greatly made up with the creativity of the drills this "icon" uses during his practices. Getting as many players involved in every drill is the goal of every practice. Keeping the practices short and upbeat is also part of the formula to success in youth baseball. Drills such as THE CONTINUATION DRILL,THE CIRCLE DRILL,RAPID FIRE DRILL and more not only help to increase the baseball skills for 7-12 year olds but the drills themselves are fun! The measure of the success reflecting the material in this book is the effort the players make to attend each and every practice (I was amazed!). I followed the sample practices in this book and they work. Marty Schupak may never win the Pulitzer Prize but youth baseball coaches and players love his material. If you don't think baseball is still our national pastime, try the drills in this book and watch the reaction from the kids.
