Book Review: Pretty good, though not what I expected..
Summary: 3 Stars
So this book is good and although not an entirely unique idea, there ARE a limited amount of books out there about pregnancy that are specifically for week-by-week, one week at a time..So I did like this book for that aspect. However, it still wasn't quite what I expected or hoped for..The first 12 to 16 weeks covered in this book are pretty good but the further along it goes into, the less information it seems to give. My chief complaint really is that it focuses more on everything else BUT the baby's development for that week. For example, in week 32(which is where I am currently), there is only about one paragraph about any information I was looking for! It says the very basic things of the week (weight and length for the most part) and little else!! The whole rest of the week is all information about twins/multiple births, which is obviously of no use to me! It seems rather randomly placed, like what do twins/multiple births have anything to do with being in the 32nd week of pregnancy? And so that example is exactly what I am talking about as to what happens in almost every week! Granted, every week it DOES give you at least some information about your baby's progress, I just feel its not ENOUGH info and focuses on just about everything ELSE BUT that! I want to know every week if this is the week that he is forming finger nails, or maybe it's a big week in brain development, but instead I am brought to pages of reading about birth defects or other randomly placed information that I did not ask for or sometimes does not even apply to the me/the average reader. It does focus a lot each week on changes in YOU, the mother, which IS something good to know, but I am far less concerned or interested in my own changes, as almost ALL of those changes are temporary- the baby is my main focus and that's who's progress I am interested in knowing about! So ultimately, this book is fine for little tidbits here and there but it is certainly not to be revered as any sort of "pregnancy bible" or a main reading staple of pregnancy..it is surprisingly uninformative, disappointingly. My advice is,I just would not go out of my way to buy this, although it is not terrible either.
