Book Reviews of You Are Special (Max Lucado's Wemmicks)

Book Review: The best birthday gift I could ever give my daughter!
Summary: 5 Stars

I came upon this book by chance (or so I thought !) but now I realize it was the Spirit at work !! At a time when my teenage daughter needed to hear these words the most, I was able to give her this book. Although she is 16, it has become one of her most cherished books, as it daily reminds her that she TRULY is special - to her father and I, but even more importantly, to her Heavenly Father - no matter what cuel remarks others may make to her throughout her teenage years. I also read this book as a prayer service with adults in my parish at a Christian Formation meeting . Trust me when I say, it's not just a kids' book - it has meaning for everyone.

Book Review: You Are Special IS Special
Summary: 5 Stars

In a town full of wooden people called Wemmicks, the townspeople spend their days placing stars on those persons who are beautiful, talented and physically skilled. Those who have chipped paint, rough wood, or who are ugly, clumsy or untalented get gray dots instead of stars. Punchinello gets only gray dots and is very sad and lonely. One day he meets a Wemmick named Lucia who has no stars OR dots and he wants very much to be like her. Meeting his maker allows Punchinello to realize that he, too, is special and needs no stars to prove it. This book affirms the worth and dignity of the special child within each of us. A loving gift to all who read it.

Book Review: A book for both young and old
Summary: 5 Stars

This book can be a wonderful teaching tool in the classroom to talk about self-esteem and how kids feel when someone believes in them and treats them well. Although the context is clearly Judeo-Christian, your own creativity can allow you to use this in public schools without offending children from any spiritual background. I've been reading it to children in kindergarten, grades 1 and 2, and holding their attention is absolutely no problem. More children need to know that they are special no matter how they behave or what they look like. Use this book to pass along this most important message. You can change the world one child at a time.

Book Review: Punchinello Through A Child's Eyes
Summary: 5 Stars

I am not a reader by nature but when I heard this story read, I ran to the nearest book store to purchase it. More than what I cared to pay for a book, I purchased it anyway and I found it to be a wonderful addition to our home. The illustrations are beautiful and follow the story so well that my 3-year-old can tell me the story by looking at the pictures. Her most favorite part is when Punchinello visits the Woodcarver. Each and every time we read it, my heart is humbled and I am reminded to be a nicer person and not to judge others. It is a beautiful story about our Maker and the love he has for all of his children. Read this and enjoy!

Book Review: Sensitive to self-esteem issues in adults and children
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a heartwarming story about positive self esteem issues for adults as well as children. It portrays everyone's need to be accepted just as they are without "anyone's marks", and offers insight into the result of wounds inflicted when the world says we aren't "good enough". This story offers insight into our human need to be valued for who we are, not for what we can do. This story has such a sensitive message of how much God loves each of us personally, and how He longs for us to come to Him daily for spiritual nourishment and comfort. A must read for children, parents, and grandparents!!!
