Book Reviews of Yes, Ma'am: Erotic Stories of Male Submission

Book Review: Exactly what you'd expect.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great compilation for those interested in erotic female dominant literature. It's sensual, exotic, and quite elegant in it's own way. Defiantly a good buy.

Book Review: Good anthology on the subject.
Summary: 4 Stars

1 Introduction

The book is short stories anthology that narrates sexual interactions between men and women in which the common theme is the one of women assuming a dominating role (physical or psychological) upon submissive males. All the stories narrate the story from the submissive male perspective. It is a coincidence that one of the books I have recently read were the Bradbury's Martian Chronicles. Even though the subject at hand is different, all short stories share the same attributes of being, capable of delivering its message in a small number of pages, stories must be, in a way "memorable", and usually have interesting twist and turns through the story. Does the authors deliver? I would say yes... for the most part.

2 Technical Commentary

The book is well redacted with colloquialism restrained only where they were needed. The editor should pat herself on keeping readability up. Being English my second language, I can also state that advanced ESL students should be able to read this book without too much trouble (ESL at the high school to college, keeping in mind the subject at hand).

The stories in the book do tell different aspects of the "female domination" lifestyle. Thankfully, it does not constraint itself in describing the typical "dungeon dome" wearing leather with a full array of torture devices. The book expands from the customary imaging of the female domination theme by telling different types of male domination fantasies in which by doing so, keeps the the interest of the reader as it goes through the stories.

3 Subjective Commentary

Short stories are also "like a box of chocolates (to paraphrase Forest Gump)". There's always the one you'll like and the one that you do not. In this case my favorite story was "Tea for Three". I personally think that It was witty and unexpected which is just what I look when I read a collection of short stories.

The least I liked was "Zero Sum Game". I found it formulaic and laden with what you expect in a "dominatrix movie"; an odd choice for it to be the first story of the book. I have to admit that I got apprehensive after going through it because it sets the expectation on how the rest of the book was going to be. However my fears were put to rest after I kept reading through the book.

4 Conclusion

I would certainly recommend the book for people that might be interested in the subject because of the variety of situations that deal with the central subject. However, be mindful that if you have morality qualms on the subject, you are advised to move along. Even though it is a well written piece of literature, I can assure you that you will certainly not enjoy it.

If readers are looking for an anatomy class, this may not be the book for you either. Yes, there are explicitly sexual situations through out the book, but they are all tastefully written. In some cases there are no sexual situation to speak of because the story is dealing with the psychological aspect of domination rather than the physical one. This is one of the attributes that I appreciated as a reader, the fact that the book that it was not as "heavy handed" as other authors that have written on the subject.

In a nutshell: If you are not afraid on reading about those obscure corners of the human sexuality, You will enjoy these stories too.

Book Review: Yes, Ma'am: Its a mixed bag
Summary: 4 Stars

With "Yes, Ma'am: Erotic Stories of Male Submission," Rachel Kramer-Bussel has assembled an anthology of Penthouse Forum-syle Female Domination stories and experiences that will serve as an excellent introduction to the lifestyle for the beginner and the curious. There's nothing too extreme here and the more experienced players will probably shrug this collection off, believing the further introduction of this material into mainstream America can only mean a weakened formula - Femdom lite, if you will. But that assessment would be a mistake. Most submissive men would surely agree that any respectful coverage of this theme can only serve to make the lifestyle more attractive to the woman they hope to one day call "Mistess."

The collection works best when experiences are shared or stories are told by the women contributors. Too often, the male authors' accounts, both in `Yes Ma'am' and countless blogs and sex magazine forum pages, read like the fantasies of teenage heavy metal fans. Fortunately, Rachel takes care to also include stories with people we can identify and sympathize with.

No volume of Femdom stories is going to escape the stereotype of a black leather-clad Dominatrix strutting around in stillettos and barking orders to a cowering and naked business man. But `Yes Ma'am' does an admirable job of confirming what most of us have long suspected - kink is advancing into mainstream American bedrooms and a generation of strong, independent, sexy women are leading the charge.

Book Review: Fun and exciting!
Summary: 4 Stars

This was a great anthology of well-chosen and well-written stories. Overall, an interesting view into malesub desires and dreams, told entirely from the malesub perspective.

Some of the stories were cool enough that they could have been much longer (and therefore that much more titillating!), like "A Different Kind of Reality Show." And some of them, like Alyson Tyler's "Flash," were perfect and perfectly wonderful as they were.

Some of them definitely needed to be filed in the "Don't try this at home, kids!" ("i 1t u 2 do sumfin 4 me") but reading about stuff that is seriously taboo like this made those particular stories even hotter.

Certainly staying on my keeper shelf for those moments of relaxation...And I think a fascinating exercise would be to read "Yes, Ma'am," "Yes, Sir," "She's on Top," and "He's on Top," just to see the shifting tones and voices, turn-ons and hotness in the different perspectives!
