Book Reviews of Wit: A PlayBook Review: Brilliantly moving and touching. A must read. Summary: 5 Stars
Margaret Edson brings to this book, and to the stage, a moving and brilliant play. The irony and beauty of this work may be lost on those who read only the words and do not delve deeper into her many underlying themes. Reading Donne will never be the same for this reader. This work transcends may academic bariers. It is a must read for students of philosophy, English, sociology and psychology as it contains so many elements of the human condition. Medical schools would also do well to make this required reading.
Book Review: An Amazing Work Of Theatre Summary: 5 Stars
One of the greatest things about live theater is how every now and then someone comes along and delivers a script that moves the art form ahead a few light years. W;t is exactly this kind of revolutionary work. I had the tremendous fortune to see it performed by the magnificent Kathleen Chalfant, and this show goes off inside of you like a depth-charge. It's a beautiful, moving piece about life and dignity -- a must-read that translates exceptionally well to the printed page. Read this script!!!
Book Review: So powerful -- it will stay with you Summary: 5 Stars
I've seen the play onstage and on HBO, so I was anxious to experience the work in written form. I was not disappointed. Somehow, Professor Bearing's journey through our tangled and misguided medical system take on new meaning when read in the quiet of one's room. While the subject matter is grim, I found Professor Bearing's struggle uplifting and hopeful. There is dignity in dying and there is life after death. Of that, I am sure.
Book Review: Wit Summary: 5 Stars
I myself have terminal Breast Cancer. I felt every emotion she expressed. I watched it on Tv. I have been trying to find out if it was true. It was so real for me. I was sick as I watched it, and at the end as she looked to the audience, when the doctor asked about her pain, I reached out to the TV and held her hand. And the nurse was like myself, I worked as a Nurse, so I felt both actors feelings. I won't forget it.
Book Review: Just Read Wit Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far one of the most powerful plays to come out of the American theater in the past ten years. Even if you aren't a theater buff or like to read plays you must read Wit. It also won the pulitzer prize this year, if that makes any diiference to you. If you or anyone you've know has had cancer, it's an honest insight into how one woman copes with the diesase. Beautiful writing.
