Book Reviews of Wisconsin Death TripBook Review: Wisconsin Death Trip Summary: 5 Stars
An amazing catalogue of actual newspaper clippings, assorted news and the author's own creative musings on the suicides, murders and madness among otherwise normal citizens in late 19th century Wisconsin. Accompanied by photographs from a Black River Falls photo studio from the era. Unlike any book before or since.
Book Review: Excellent history of a people going mad Summary: 5 Stars
One of the most interesting and visually disconcerning books I have read for a long time. This book will make you feel uncomfortable but fascinate you at the same time. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in hsitory.
Book Review: Wisconsin Death Trip Summary: 5 Stars
Buying a classic again. This is the U of New Mexico Press version. The earlier publisher had the picture of the baby in a coffin on the cover. That was better, but the contents are the same.
Book Review: disturbing and informative Summary: 5 Stars
the pictures in this book explain a lot to me,seeing as my family originally came from this part of wisconsin. and many of *them* were insane.
Book Review: Through a glass very darkly Summary: 4 Stars
This brilliant book well deserved its reissue. Lesy's photographic essay of the nasty, brutish, and short lives of our immediate forebears makes us shockingly aware of what a grind life was not too long ago. Murder, sadness, and regret practically ooze out of this book's pages, but somehow beautifully. This work is essential for anyone interested in history, photojournalism, or the human condition.
