Book Review: Every recipe tried a hit!

Last summer I finally decided to learn how to make ice cream. I found an almost-new ice cream maker for free on freecycle.org and the guy gave me this book along with the maker. Like many people, he barely used his ice cream maker and it was taking up space in his garage along with the book.

Well this was my lucky day. I normally don't get Williams Sonoma things. I love going to their store to drool, but I rarely buy anything there, as it's a bit pricey. It was a lucky break, then, that this book landed into my hot little hands, and I'm now considering looking at other cookbooks in the WS collection, as my experience with this one has been so good.

I've only tried three recipes from here, but every one has been a hit. I carefully followed the directions in both the ice cream maker manual and the book and everything has came out stunningly perfect. The first flavor I made was Double Chocolate Ice Cream and my husband and I oh-ed and ah-ed when we looked into the churning machine and saw the thickening brown tastiness forming inside. I found myself actually jumping up and down and yelling, "It works!" Once it was done, we let it set in the freezer for a few hours.

Never in my life have I enjoyed ice cream that much. With only pure ingredients, this ice cream beat all my favorite brands, hands down. I kept thinking, "I can't believe I've gone without this until now!"

Since then I've tried the ginger ice cream (heaven!!) and the pistachio and dried cherry ice cream (my favorite I think...) I want to try others but these first flavors bowled me over so much, it's hard to pull myself away from them, and I keep making them over and over.

What cracks me up is how impressed people are when they taste it. "You MADE this?" they marvel. But the truth is, it's pretty darned simple.

Anyway, high quality recipes! I look forward to trying more when the weather warms up.
