Book Reviews of White Fang (Scholastic Classics)Book Review: A story I will never forget! Summary: 5 Stars
What seemed like forever ago I was a small child, milling about the small section of the books in the classroom when I came upon the novel. I was immediately disturbed by the cover, (yes I do know the term "Don't judge a book by its cover,") but surely that flew my mind at the cover art I beheld.
The cover portrayed a bloodthirsty creature of the wild, bearing its white fangs at some unknown enemy. From then on, I was fascinated by that book because the mystery it held for me and the unerring questions that entered my thoughts whenever I recalled it; Why was the wolf seemingly so vicious? And was it about a blood thirsty killer that kept killing and never stopped till its lust was satisfied?
A few years later I finally bought the book from the Scholastic Book fair and found that my assumptions wasn't entirely incorrect, but somewhat false too. This novel is one of life from a wolf in graphic/disturbing detail. Kill or be killed, Eat or be eaten. But contains a story that isn't entirely harsh (like Call of the Wild) with a good ending that leaves one satisfied.
White Fang by Jack London is about a young wolf cub growing-up and surviving in the Northland wilderness during the 1880s. White Fang receives many different owners in his lifetime, such as Gray Beaver, Beauty Smith and finally the "love master," Weedon Scott. His adventures in the deadly wilderness will capture the imagination and hold a listener intently. His weaning from his mother Kiche and his battles with Lip Lip are intriguing. His story is one that shouldn't be passed by, from the first description of his mother's pack attacking Musher's in the cold nights to White Fang's first kill. White Fang is yet to be shelved and continue to be shelved for generations and beyond!
Summary of White Fang (Scholastic Classics)With an introduction from award winning K.A. Applegate, White Fang is one of London's classic tales of survival and one of his most popular stories. White Fang is part dog, part wolf, and the lone survivor of his family. In his lonely world, he soon learns to follow the law of the North--kill or be killed.
