Where the Red Fern Grows
Imagine a heart warming tale of a boy and his two dogs that you will never forget. It is called Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. It is a classic book that has been around forever. It has made it into motion pictures.
The story Were the Red Fern Grows is a bout a boy named Billy that saves his money for two years to buy two good hound dogs. Each dog coasted $ 25.00, when Billy got his dog he always went hunting mama was always worried. Papa really didn't care. Papa told Billy that his dog was so go that Papa entered them in a hunting contest. Then something sad happened.
This book took place in the country back in the old times when a dollar was alot. I really liked the part where Billy had to save up his money for two years to buy his two dogs. What I disliked about this book is the ending.
This is a good book. I really liked reading the book. I would reamed someone else to read this book. So if you like dogs, hunting, and the country you should read this book.
Book Review: Ulises Cruz Review Summary: 5 Stars
I really liked the book and it is a very fun interesting book to read. I really liked that it had to do with some sort of sport. I also liked it because it was book were there was all source of action. There was a little boy that lived in the hills and dream of having two coon hounds. He finally worked and saved enough money to buy himself two. He was so excited to get them that he trained them to hunt. The characters were very believable and never doubted that they were making them up. The plot was very interesting because it was about the kid entering a big coon hunt. He won the competition by treeing four coons with his dogs. The major themes of the story were when on of the Prichard brothers accidentally stabbed himself. The author used a very special way of imagery. He made everything be visual in my head. I was all into the story that I didn't want to stop reading. I didn't like by were sometimes they didn't talk about when the dogs killed the coons and how they treed them. They would sometimes leave you think what would happen next or what could of happen.
Book Review: Jim's Great Grand Review Summary: 5 Stars
Where the Red Fern Grows, is where Billy Colman lives in the Oklahoma Ozark Mountains. Billy wanted to get two smart hunting hounds. His parents said no, because they cost too much money. Billy knew a basket of berries would sell for 10 cents per bucket. He sold the berries along with other things to the neighbors to make money to buy his dogs. Two years later Billy saves up enough money for two $25.00 hunting hounds. Billy has the money for his dogs, and he went to the depot to get them. He ran into trouble along the way. He got his dogs. Next , he started to train his dogs to be coon hunters. Billy wanted to trap lots of raccoons. He also enters a contest to see who can get the most coons on a certain night and day. Billy has a couple accidents along the way. But, what will happen in the contest. My favorite character in this story is Billy Coleman because he was a very good thinker when it comes to problems in the woods.
I recommend that everybody should enjoy reading this thoughtful, adventurous classic book.
Book Review: Childhood Favorite Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the best coming of age books I have ever read! The relationship of Billy with his dogs, his stubborn determination to earn the money to buy those dogs, and his amazing tenacity demonstrated during his hunting adventures are wonderful examples for young people today. And I dare anyone to keep their eyes dry during the final chapters of the book. My grade 5 teacher Mr.McLeod read this book each year to his class. And when he read it, there wasn't a dry eye in the room. (Even the tough guys cryed, though they kept their heads on their desks so we wouldn't notice.) Everyone, male and female, looked forward to his reading this book each year. I think there would've been a revolt if he skipped it. It is one of the few books read to me by a teacher that has stuck with me all these years -- thank you Mr.McLeod. I just recently read it to my own children (ages 5-9) and each time we read it they begged for just one more chapter (even if I had read 2 or 3 already). They loved it, and your and your children will too.
Book Review: READ IT Summary: 5 Stars
First and foremost, this is not just another dog book. If all you got out of this book was," It's just about a boy saving his money to buy two dogs and enter a tournament", you missed the entire premises of the plot, and you belittle the book. Where the Red Fern Grows is about perserverance, dedication, and the ability to overcoming amazing obstacles if your mind and heart is set on it.
The timeline of this book is the great depression which makes the feat so much more difficult to achieve. A boy had a dream, and throughout hard work he relized it, even in unfarovable conditions. This book is about bonding, friendship, and the loyalty of animals, it is not about a boy training two dogs in hopes of winning a trophy.
I read this book in 5th grade, and 20 years later, I still remember it as vividly as the day I read it. If you have not read this book, I would go as far as to say stop everything you are doing, go buy this book and dedicated some time to reading it. I am disappointed, I can only give this book 5 stars.
