Book Review: Adventurous novel about a boy and relationship with his dogs
Summary: 5 Stars

Where the red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawles, is about a boy named Billy growing up in the Ozark Mountains. While growing up in the country side, Billy wanted to dogs to hunt coons with, but his father could not afford such an expensive dog. Billy decided to earn the money himself. Billy trained his dogs and took them hunting every night.Billy and his dogs went through many adventures hunting for coons. One time, they encountered a mountain lion. Old Dan was able to save Billy's life from the mountain lion. Little Ann could not go on with her life because her friend had just died. Billy decided to bury the two dogs next to each other. Billy and his family was able to move out the country side and into the city. He frequently visits his dogs grave and see a red fern growing in between them.

The reason why I enjoyed this book was because of the adventures Billy went on through out the novel. His hard work and dedication has showed me that you can achieve anything. The main theme that seemed to go out through the novel, is that even in tought times, hard work and persistence can lead to succes and achievement.

Book Review: A Fun read for children and adults, alike!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I first read "Where the Red Fern Grows" when I was in seventh grade. As a thirteen-year-old, I was captivated by the imagery that goes with the story. I found myself living in the shoes of Billy, the main character, wanting a pair of coon dogs for myself. The story is inpirational and fun to read along with. Mr. Rawls clearly understood what it was like to be a young boy living in the Ozark Mountains, because his depiction of every little detail is so crisp and pulls the reader in.

I recently re-read this book to see if it had the same effect on me as an adult, and I have to say that the imagery is the same, only I picked up on many other themes that I missed as a teen. It was still a very enjoyable read, and I whizzed through the book, just as I had done seventeen years earlier.

I am so happy to have rediscovered this classic that I will certainly give to my children when they get a little older. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a book filled with memorable characters, beautiful descriptions of scenery, and a story that is warm to you heart and fills your soul. Give it a try.

Book Review: Where the Red Fern Grows
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was one of the most detailed book that i have ever read. The setting takes place in many different places. First there is the forest near his farm and the surrounding areas. Also there is near Bluebird Creek, his farm, and the town twenty miles from his farm. In the beginning, Billy, the main character, really wants two dogs. but he doesn't want just any dogs, he wants some hunting hounds, which are really expensive. In fact they could cost up to fifty or sixty dollars for two good hounds. He asked his parents to get him some dogs, but they are too expensive. For a long time he has a conflict with his parents on getting some dogs, but in the end he has to do it himself. So he saves his money until he gets enough and he gets his dogs. Then he tries to catch a racoon to train his dogs but can't. To find out how he catches it, though you'll have to read it. He has a good time with his dogs, and for a long time he has many adventures with his two dogs. Then something great happens, and he goes to a tournament. He does that for a while and then he has a bad experience, to find out what it is read this great novel.

Where The Red Fern Grows

Where the Red Fern Grows is a good movie. It is a movie about a boy named Billy who needs hounds desperately, he works very hard and hides his money from his dad to buy the hounds. His dad wants and needs a mule for the farm but Billy needs the hounds more, his heart is breaking in two for the hounds.
Billy finally saves enough money and his grandpa orders the dogs for him. Billy goes to get the dog from the train station. He buys his parents things they need so that they let him keep the dogs and he names them Old Dan and Little Ann.
I especially like the part when the dogs won the gold trophy. They hung in for so long, I thought they would die. But they made it and they showed how they were very special dogs. I fell in love with them myself.
And at the end of the movie, the dogs die. It will break your heart. I think after anyone sees this movie they will understand the love between two dogs that grow up together and become one. And how dogs can change your life.

Book Review: Two dogs, one heart
Summary: 5 Stars

Was there ever a time when you wondered about what the love and loyalty of a dog really feels like? Have you ever wondered what it's like to have part of your heart taken away from you?

Billy Colman, a country boy, has a need for dogs. Not one, but two... and they have to be hunting hounds. Join Billy on his adventure to become the best hunter in the whole countryside. Just remember, all of the greatest dog books have a sad part in it.

My favorite part of the book was when Billy was a grown man, living in the town. He found an old redbone hound fighting and clearly outnumbered. What does he do? Well, he does what any decent man would do. He gets in the fight and gets the hound safely to his house. The hound is soon on his way to the house of his beloved master. Just looking at the hound brought back memories that Billy will never forget.

I would recommend this book to all people ages nine and up. This heart-warming story is perfect for curling up with in a chair. Anyone who loves dogs, loyalty, and determination stories is sure to love this. -- Emma
