Book Reviews of Where is the Mango Princess? A Journey Back from Brain Injury

Book Review: spot on
Summary: 5 Stars

Wonderful, spot on writing and observations about Brain Injury and recovery. This is a must-read for any family member dealing with a loved one with a TBI, or for anyone experiencing the ups and down post-TBI or rehabilitation.

The observations are keen, and accurate, and just spot on. Written in an easy-to read and follow style, it never veers into the morose, and is refreshing.

I am a neuropsychologist who runs a rehabilitation day program for brain injuries, and I have often recommended this book to my families. On the other hand, I recommend Claudia Osborne's Over My Head to the actual patients themselves.

Book Review: Cynical, Thoughtful and Scary
Summary: 5 Stars

Crimmon's book was heart-wrenching to read. The story of her husband's TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and the after effects of it on her life, his life and their daughter have to be read to be understood. I can't do it justice. She keeps a good sense of humor throughout the book but there is certainly an underlying cynical and bitter tone throughout. Not that I can blame her. It's real. It's life and a it ain't pretty. Personally, after reading this I literally wanted to make all my loved ones wear helmets each day after reading about the hell that TBI can put a family through.

Book Review: Powerful
Summary: 5 Stars

Ms. Crimmins gives the reader a real-to-life perspective of what a TBI survivor and his or her family endures. I had a severe TBI 7 years ago and am now an RN working with TBI and stroke patients in the rehab setting. I had the opportunity to hear Ms. Crimmins speak last year and was so enthralled with her story, I rushed out to get the book. I read it, loved it and passed it on to my family to read. I have recommended it to some of my patients' families because of the honest language. This book has helped my family and other families feel like "we're not the only ones".

Book Review: I can't thank Cathy Crimmins enough for this book!
Summary: 5 Stars

In 1992 I too suffered a Frontal Lobe Brain Injury. While I had already suffered and underwent rehab for I looked to this book for a picture of someone else who had "been there." I was not disappointed! Ms. Crimmins story presented a picture that was both extremely tragic and hopeful. I found myself laughing along with them due to having "been there, done that." I have since given this book to many of the people I have met. Fellow TBI survivors continue to recommend it to those that they meet, both survivors as well as family members of people newly injured.

Book Review: Wish I had this book in the beginning
Summary: 5 Stars

I cannot tell you the impact of this book. It brought back so many of the feelings I had in the beginning that I didn't realize were there. This book was the closest thing to me and my husband and what we were going through. I only wish I would of read this book in the beginning of finding out my husband has Moderate to Severe Traumatic Brain Injury. I gave the book to his Speech Therapist who never read it and it truly helped her understand the family and the victim, and yes she was in tears when she read it. Thanks Cathy Crimmins!!!!
