Book Reviews of When You Are Engulfed in FlamesBook Review: Sedaris: Rx for when you're on chemo Summary: 5 Stars
Nothing makes me laugh harder or longer than David Sedaris' bits. Going through chemo, a little weepy, I decided to start this book. It quickly brought my spirits up and got my sense of humor back on track. Going to have to dig out his older books to re-read to get me through the rest of treatment. I loved this book as much as I loved all his others...found it a bit mellower, less risqué, but had a ball reading it.
Book Review: Classic Sedaris Summary: 5 Stars
When You Are Engulfed in Flames is a departure from Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim in that is focuses more on Sedaris instead of the whole clan, but his writing is as witty and sharp as ever. In this book of essays, Sedaris takes the reader to Japan in his noble attempt to quit smoking. What follows will only have any appreciative Sedaris readers shaking their heads while rolling on the floor in a laughing fit.
Book Review: This was just a joy to read. Summary: 5 Stars
I recommend this book whole heartedly. It illicit a full belly laugh from the written word is a challenge and time after time I am placed in a state of joy.
Sedaris's humor and lifestyle may not be for everyone, but if you are one of the few who enjoy this humor, then embrace it. Read it slow, and savor it like a fine chocolate. Then pray to god you forget 98% of it, so you can enjoy it again.
Book Review: Laugh Out Loud Summary: 5 Stars
This was David Sedaris's second book I've read, the first being Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary. Not only did this book make me laugh out loud on more than occasion, it was thought provoking and self-reflective. I enjoy Sedaris's writing style and I am looking forward to reading more of his books.
Book Review: my favorite by him Summary: 5 Stars
I love love love David Sedaris and this book has some of my all time favorite stories by him in it. Anything that takes place in France is hysterical and I love the coffee making story. I also love all the stories about Japan and the premise behind which he went to Japan. Another home run by David Sedaris.
