Book Review: Guaranteed to Entertain

This was my first ever David Sedaris book.
I was delighted with the book.
I prefer both memoirs and humor, so Sedaris is ideal for my tastes.
I found myself repeatedly laughing out loud while devouring these essays. I simply can't imagine getting completely thru this book without giggling out loud at least once.
Since finishing this book I've read two more Sedaris books and I supposed I'll eventually need to get through everything else the guy has put together.
I was particularly piqued while reading about David's little brother (oh my, what a piece of work) and David's partner Hugh.
I genuinely appreciate the entertainment.

David Sedaris's new book is finally out after me waiting, like, a whole month for it. It's about time. My only question is, why is he spending so much effort making appearances when he should be back at home writing another book? Anyway, this is just an introduction to say everyone should buy this book, like 10 copies at least, to give away to nephews, nieces, aunts, neighbors, people in the check out line at the grocery store who smile at you, and just about anyone else you come across who knows the words to Isn't It Lovely. And I guess I don't mind that he's touring. I'm sure he needs a break and to socialize from time to time. If anything, it's another way he can gather more material for more stories. Excellent job Mr. Sedaris. I'm a big fan. THANKS.Book Review: Everyone but my mom should read this book!

I have been waiting for a new David Sedaris book for a long time. I read the entire book yesterday afternoon and I could not stop laughing. His descriptions, dialogue, and demented details are uniquely Sedaris. This book did not disappoint; I knew what I was getting into the moment I read through the table of contents. Some critics are saying that there is nothing new here, blah, blah, blah. What do they want from a David Sedaris book? Romance? Epic Adventure? YA Fiction? I am a huge fan of Mr. Sedaris (David, not Lou), and his essays on his life leave me laughing. The section on smoking was not only funny, but very truthful. I could taste the menthol while reading. My wife brought this book from work and I never heard of the author before. I was immediately taken by the cover. It made me laugh so I decided to read the book. WOW! It led me to the bookstores and to buy ALL of the available titles from this funny author.
I'm shocked that half of the reviewers here gave anything less than five stars. This is by far the funniest book I have read this year. He has a way of describing things in sick details but even that bursts me to laughter every time. Whether he is describing his goofy family or France, this man knows how to tickle each of the funny senses in all of us.

It was a joy to read. An author like Sedaris doesn't come along very often. This was the first of Sedaris' books I've read. It had me belly laughing! I plan on reading his other book, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim. It was #1 on the NYT bestseller list.
I bought When You Are Engulfed in Flames specifically to see how another person went about quitting smoking and that's the essay I read first. He gives me the inspiration, along with many laughs, to quit smoking
myself. I only wish we could all go to Japan to do
it. I think Mr. Sedaris has another bestseller on his hands.
