Book Reviews of When You Are Engulfed in FlamesBook Review: Priceless book. Summary: 5 Stars
The only problem with this book is that it passes by too quickly. I read it in one weekend and thoughly enjoyed the experience. I think the ideal reader for this book would be a Southerner; more than in any other of his books, Sedaris draws from his Southern childhood and finds many experiences that resonated deeply with me.
What I like most about Sedaris, however, is that no matter how bad I'm feeling, reading one of his essays makes me feel refreshed and energized. Every single essay in his book is hilarious and provides his insightful reflections on human nature and experience.
I can't say enough about how wonderful this writer is. Sedaris' wit and inventiveness rival that of Mark Twain. He is an American treasure, and I personally believe people will be reading him a hundred years from now. The only thing that would make me like him even more as a writer would be a foray into fiction (I'm crossing my fingers!).
Book Review: Yes Sir. This is Good Stuff Summary: 5 Stars
Before writing this review, I read a smattering of other reviews, particularly the one star reviews. Yowza! I didn't realize there are that many people out there that expect so much from a book. Next, they will want Sedaris to rotate their tires and patch their jeans.
I found the book to be highly entertaining. Yes, it is a small departure from previous works by the author but for me it shows growth, not regression. As we stumble toward the cemetery we do tend to get more introspective - that's just the way it's designed. I for one, appreciate this new version.
Concerning the humor in the book. I have only one word. Funny. For those who are homophobic, I have two. Scary and Funny.
I hope you find this review helpful.

Book Review: Sedaris's best yet Summary: 5 Stars
I am familiar with several David Sedaris' works and I enjoy his occasional New York column. Most of which are extremely enjoyable to read (I didn't care for Barrel Fever). This book contains many short stories from David's life, written in a very relatable and humorous manner. David's works are some of the easiest reads I've ever encountered, and his candor is really disarming. Reading his stories makes me feel like I know his family personally, and the writing all the more endearing because of it.
Anybody who has ever thought their family was strange should read this book. People who can appreciate the minor quirks in ourselves and others will appreciate this book. Folks who enjoy a series of funny stories that will have you eagerly flipping the pages as you cackle with delight should buy this book.
Book Review: The Wildness... Summary: 5 Stars
funny stuff, Sedaris book isnt what i expected, but it was my 1st Sedaris
practically every magazine I read reviewed the book and said it was absolutely hilarious and I've always read good reviews for his other stuff
i have to agree with some other reviewers, the essay "The Smoking Section" was awesome, the only bad part was that it was 83 pages long......, very, very funny though
the guy has a way with words, awesome descriptions of every day things
"This Old House", "The Understudy", "That's Amore", "April in Paris" & "Adult Figures Charging Toward a Concrete Toadstool" along with "The Smoking Section" were my favorites to read
if you want to read a HILARIOUS collection of stories, check out Michael Ian Black's "My Custom Van" , now that is funny stuff
Book Review: Thank You, Mr. Sedaris Summary: 5 Stars
This title caught my eye in line at a bookstore, heavy laden with other people's Christmas gifts. While I juggled the other titles in my hand, I opened this book and started reading chapter two, "The Understudy". I was hooked, and even laughed aloud in the long line, to the annoyance of the other customers. Had to buy it as a gift to myself, and read the book in one sitting later that week. I'm new to David Sedaris, but I immediately recognized a kindred spirit with his insane attention to details in the past. I don't care if the stories are embellished, I devoured every one and loved the little ray of light, wit, and hope that shines through in so many of the stories. A great storyteller with gallows humor and a lot of heart. Life is hard, we have to laugh more than cry. Bravo!
