Book Reviews of "What's Happening to Me?" A Guide to Puberty

Book Review: A great resource
Summary: 4 Stars

I remember that my grandma bought this book to give to my mom, so that she could share it with me. I developed pretty early, so my mom had already talked to me about my period before I read this book. I remember that she allowed me to read it myself and let me ask questions (I had lots). I also remember looking at the book with my cousin and laughing at the pictures of the developing male and female bodies. All in all, it's a great book that I'm glad is still in publication. I'd caution parents to give it to their children earlier than the age the book recommends. Both boys and girls are reaching puberty earlier these days and need to know about all of this.

Book Review: Good but Old
Summary: 4 Stars

I believe this is a good book. It is very helpful in teaching kids about puberty. But the problem is the book is outdated. The ages need to be lowered a little because nowadays, kids are going through puberty earlier. Girls have their period at age 9-10 on average and age 8-9 if they are early. Boys go through puberty on average at age 10-11 and age 9-10 if they are early. I know this because of things told to me from my friends from when they were younger and from myself. I personally went through puberty right after I turned 9 years old. If the book was updated a little, I would give the book five stars.

Book Review: I loved this book...
Summary: 4 Stars

I think I'll make it a tradition in my family! My mom gave me this book when I was growing up, and I swear I read it cover to cover each day!! I loved the illustrations; I thought they eased the transition from Uncomfy-with-the-whole-puberty-thing to Yay!-I'm a Woman!! :P I'd recommend it.

Book Review: Very Good Information
Summary: 4 Stars

I remember when I was a little girl and my mom reading this book to me. I purchased it for my daughter so we could have "the talk", which she felt was torturous, but I still think that the book is great! Easy to read, relevant information without being overwhelming.

Book Review: Helped me feel better about myself
Summary: 3 Stars

It's easy to see why this book has sold over a million copies. The images are so appealing--honest and funny. I laughed out loud at the page "Breasts like women come in all shapes and sizes." That page illustration helped me feel better about myself. Girls often stare at me when I'm at the gym. So I smile and say, "Breasts, like women come in all shapes and sizes." This book introduce preteens to puberty and, it's a great companion book for Flowering Woman Moontime for Kory, A Menarche Adventure & Rite of Passage Story
