I went to three GNR concerts between 1987 and 1991. THe first was a balls to the wall opening act for Aerosmith. Then came a show in Hershey, PA where I discovered that there was a special spot under the stand to treat OD's (I missed most of the show due to alcohol poisoning). And then there was the infamous GNR-Metallica tour where I found myself with my (then) little brother in the middle of a mini-riot at Giants Stadium when they didn't take the stage till 1AM and Axl walked off 45 mins later (with Duff finishing Knocking of Heavens Door and cursing us out followed by Slash - one of the people that make me proud to be a member of the human race - reassuring 70,000 people that Axl was the ass, not us. This book brought it all back. The sheer excitement of being a fan of the 'World's Most Dangerous Band" . . . the band on stage when several people were buried alive and trampled in England . . . the band that triggered riots in St. Louis and Montreal . . . the band that I would have followed to the grave . . . came back to me in vivid Technicolor. GNR was the band that pulled me out of the cesspool of the '80's (Poison, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, etc.) and made me believe in Rock and Roll again, And this book brought it all roaring back. God bless GNR (especially Slash a/k/a my personal Jesus) to a vapid period of my life and God bless Steven Davis for vividly reminding me or five guys (Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven) that made life worth living . . . even to the point of and O.D.
