Book Reviews of Wasted: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia (P.S.)Book Review: i am wasted, but i'm ready... Summary: 5 Stars
this book is beautifully written. marya hornbacher is a phenomenal writer, and i have read this book at least 5 times over, never growing tired of her vivid descriptions of an uphill battle with an eating disorder. i've read all 3 of hornbacher's books (all of which i finished in approximately 3-4 days, because i could NOT put them down), and truly look forward to any further books/memoirs she has in the works, as i know they will be equally brilliant.
this book is life changing...it's heart breaking...it's beautiful...it's scarring...it's amazing.
Book Review: Difficult but good Summary: 5 Stars
I had a difficult time reading this book and not because it wasnt well written. Marya has a talent for words. Previously I had been researching young girls and eating disorders and came across a shocking message board on the internet. It was all young girls instructing each other on how to be a successful bulimic. How can we get this book out to these young souls who are about to commit suicide? Not young women but young girls? Anorexia/bulimia is no different from alcoholism or drug abuse. You can lead a horse ...
Book Review: Extremely helpful Summary: 5 Stars
As a college student recovering from anorexia I always felt alone and that no one in the world understood what I was going through. That is, until I bought this book. Hornbacher writes with such genuine, thought-provoking and touching words...that I now feel like this is a disease that I can keep overcoming. That there are people out there that have overcome the odds and beat this horrible thing. Hornbacher's easy to read narrative provides deep insight into the disease and hope for recovery.
Book Review: Insightful and Comforting Summary: 5 Stars
This book is first and foremost a memoir. Raw and sometimes graphic in its detail of a woman who spent her life fighting Anorexia and Bulimia. There are accounts of her day to day life including weigh ins, calorie counts, and workouts. The book has some insight into the mindset of someone with an Eating disorder, the chaos, the madness and obsession that come with the disease. A must read for someone interested in understanding and helping others who suffer from this silent epidemic.
Book Review: great memoir Summary: 5 Stars
this book is amazing. marya hornbacher's writing is beautifully descriptive and painfully honest. i've read this book 3 times, it's a must read for anyone suffering from ED. as someone else said, this is not a feel-good memoir, it's not a self-help book by any means. personally, i find it extremely triggering. it is amazing, nonetheless, captivating, uncomfortable at times, and difficult to put down.
