Book Reviews of Vogue Knitting on the Go: Cables: Mittens, Hats & Scarves (Vogue Knitting on the Go!)

Book Review: Update instructions please
Summary: 4 Stars

I agree with a previous reviewer, the pattern on the cover is unremarkable except for the yarn.

However, once you get inside the book, there are several good patterns for scarves (some that even guys might want to wear) and hats that are both interesting to knit and look good when worn. Also, most of the patterns will look good in inexpensive yarns, which is important if you are knitting for children or others who are a bit hard on their clothing.

Why Vogue doesn't include directions for knitting with two circular needles is a mystery to me.

Also, all of the charts are printed black on white, and not black on a colored background, as in previous books in this series. Much, much easier on the eyes, although some of the charts could have been enlarged to fill the page.

Book Review: useful collection

Congratulations to VK for using new designers in this book. Really some lovely items. Cabled cap, double cabled scarf, bias cable hat, 3 cable scarf, traveling cable hat, scarf with hood and neck warmer and hat are just lovely. The cover gauntlets are very ugly and not a good sample of the book's contents. REcommended for all knitters and especially anyone looking for a quick project or a hat or scarf.

Book Review: Same old same

The projects in here can easily be found anywhere on the web.. this was a disappointment to me .. I expected more from a Vogue title.

Book Review: Cables galore!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just received this book and am pleased with the patterns I see here. All of them are nice, with only one novelty type hat. That hat could actually be made without the long braids on each side, and then it would be just a nice cabled hat.

Here's a breakdown of what is in the book. There are a total of 21 patterns, but some include more than one thing(like hat and mittens). There are 11 hat patterns, 4 scarf pattern, 2 fingerless mitten patterns, 2 regular mitten patterns, and 1 baby mitten pattern, 2 neckwarmer patterns, 2 hat attached to scarf patterns, and 1 headband pattern. Overall a nice assortment.

There are no patterns rated beginner in this book. There are 5 patterns rated very easy, 8 rated intermediate, and 8 rated experienced. Some of the experienced ones are scarf patterns that have you doing several different cables at a time. Not really hard, you just have to keep track of where you are at.

The patterns here are classic, but not dumpy looking. Here is a list of the patterns included:
Cabled Cap
Double Cable Scarf
Drop Stitch Cable Scarf
Self Striping Gauntlets(on the cover of the book)
Cabled Wristlets and Hat
Cabled Neck Warmer
Bias Scarf
Baby Hat and Mitten Set
Bias Cable Hat
Traveling Cable Mittens
Three Cable Scarf
Traveling Cable Hat
Scarf with Hood
Mitten and Headband Set
Rolled Brim Hat
Cabled Helmet with Scarf
Striped Hat
Pompom Hat
Bomber Hat
Rapunzel Hat(this is the novelty hat)
Neckwarmer and Hat.

Guess it's time to break out the cable needle and get knitting! The Double Cable scarf and Three Cable scarf are beautiful!
