Book Reviews of Visions of Heat (Psy-Changelings, Book 2)

Book Review: 2nd book going strong without repititions
Summary: 4 Stars

I have to reiterate my opinion on Nalini Singh - she is a great writer. Usually once you pick up the second book there are bound to be so many repetitions in the hero's traits that the rest of the book/series becomes predictable. Not so in this case. Yes, there are certain similarities in the character because we are speaking about a species with certain characteristics. We also know how the book will ultimately end (it is a romance - there are rules for writing one), but how we will get to it is not absolutely predictable.
I enjoyed reading this installment and I am looking forward to the other books.

Book Review: GREAT BOOK
Summary: 5 Stars

VISIONS OF HEAT -Book 2 in Changeling-Psy Series

With a brilliant start to the series in SLAVE TO SENSATION - Nalini Singh, now my favorite paranormal writer, captivates by her vivid imagery and flawless narration. The unbelievable sense of prose, has you enthralled from the moment your eyes land on the first page and you are glued to a fabulous story and characters that will stay with you for a long while.

I thought the first in the series was absolutely brilliant - but in my opinion VISIONS OF HEAT surpasses the first book. Unbelievably talented Singh continues to faultlessly depict a changing-psy world, making it so authentic that you feel it exists with characters that are so alive; they almost feel like real people. Not only is the storyline so engrossing that you can hardly put the book down, but you have this sense of empathy for the characters you have fallen in love with along the way.

This is the story of Faith and Vaughn. Vaughn, a changeling jaguar sentinel of the DarkRiver pack, comes in contact with Faith, an F-Psy from the NightStar clan. Faith, closely guarded all her life - and living in an isolated cabin surrounded by Psy guards, has been making predictions since she was 3 years old - predictions that the Psy dearly value, as she is worth billions of dollars for their accuracy in the business markets.

When she experiences visions of blood, death and strangulation in her sleep, she thinks they are nightmares - but shortly after her sister Marine is strangled in the same manner she has seen in her dreams. Unable to cope - as she believes she is going insane - she decides to seek the help of Sascha Duncan, a Rogue Psy (we meet Sascha in SLAVE TO SENSATION) the only person that might be able to tell her why she is experiencing these visions.

Faith is a grand heroine - appearing fragile but with tremendous inner strength, her intelligence and fortitude, coupled with a magnificent sense of loyalty make her a brilliant mate for Vaughn

Vaughn is the perfect Alpha Male. Immovable, arrogant, superior, lethal and very possessive - he relies on his animal instinct more so than any other Pack member. To Faith, he is beyond intimidating - he is dangerously fascinating. Faith can't endure physical touch as she can go into mental overload when she is touched. Vaughn is fascinated by Faith - and always keeps touching her, making her accept the sense of touch and pushing her to accept her emotions. Vaughn realizes both are mated - but for Faith - with her lack of ability to sustain touch... well... lets just say you are in for a great ride and a very intimate, sexy read!! There is such beauty in the commitment and love Vaughn feels for Faith - that she realizes that he is her salvation.

The H/H are to die for, the story has great suspense (no annoying cliffhangers), sex is steamy and the interaction from previous characters beautifully blended in the plot. Well done Nalini!

Book Review: Great Entertainment
Summary: 5 Stars

Similar to my last review, I have graded this book on the 3 top reasons we buy books like this.

1. THE STORY - I very much enjoyed this story. I am very happy to see that there is a larger story arch going on from book to book. It gives the characters purpose and helps to lay the foundation for future characters and their motivations.

2. THE CHARACTERS - These characters were so compatible. Their similarities were close enough to be obvious, but weren't so matchy matchy that you wanted to puke. I liked that their lives could merge together so seamlessly and in such an organic manner.

3. THE SEX - Ok. I know why you are reading this review. You want to know if the sex is going to be hot. And yes, it is. But I must say that the sexual tension building up to the actual act was very well written and just as much fun. It somehow conveyed that "desperately wanting" feeling you got when your high school boyfriend would sneak into your bedroom so you could have a stolen moment with out it being as silly as a 17 year old.

All in all, I really liked this book and recommend it to anyone looking for some great entertainment.
