Book Review: 3.5 score for a book that could have been better

This book had so much potential and it caught me right away as something that had a little bit of everything...suspense, science, horror, etc. It went really far and at first it was really gripping and interesting, but after a while it lost a lot of steam and so many questions went unanswered. Questions I would have liked answered: What happened to Ezra at the end and why did he end up in a mental institution? What happened to the Dead Sea Scrolls in the sanitarium across the street from the hospital? Why was Beth bleeding and what happened to her friend Abbie? Is the baby the son of Arius and what happened to Arius? Why didn't Carter just tell the truth and say that Mitchell wasn't supposed to be in the lab? What did Carter tell the police after he dropped off the door knob with the finger prints on them? What was up with Arius' damaged finger?
There were soooo many questions left unanswered and the ending seemed so anti-climactic and hurried that it just seemed that the author ran out of steam. Another thing that bothered me is the picture on the cover and the fossil mentioned in the book looks like a pterodactyl with claws not some quasi human/angel type creature. What gives?
