Book Reviews of Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith

Book Review: Very enjoyable
Summary: 5 Stars

I found Mr. Bell's book to be highly enjoyable. After reading it cover to cover in a few hours, I was both encouraged and challenged by the thoughts put forward. I have had the fortunate opportunity to attend Mars Hill Bible Church on a couple of occasions, and I was both challenged and encouraged by Mr. Bell each time I went. I enjoy the questions that Mr. Bell puts forth, and I am also challenged by the different thoughts he has on theological topics long considered to be answered or solved.

In summary, Mr. Bell's book gave me a lot to think about and to process, all while encouraging me and motivating me to keep digging toward a deeper, lived-out faith. I am thankful for the book and for his insight.

Book Review: Favorite book of 2006
Summary: 5 Stars

I didn't know anything about Rob Bell before I read this book, but now I can say I have a deep appreciation for His insight. Although, I do not agree with everything he says - I value much more than I distain.

I think this book covers so many worthwhile points, but his perspective on missional living really stuck with me. He brings a fresh perspective on subjects that have been preached into the ground. One thing I really love about His writing is that due to his background of Jewish culture he has so much insight into the scripture I had never heard before.

I would highly recommend this book. For anyone feeling discontent with christianity - this book will bring much encouragement.

Book Review: Best book I've read in the past year
Summary: 5 Stars

I absolutely loved this book. I've enjoyed Bell's Nooma videos and everything he's written or recomended I've made sure to expose myself to and been blessed in the process. From someone in ministry who cacn find herself becoming cynical or jaded at times, this book did neither. Instead, this book gave me hope that there is still Christian thinkers that aren't afraid to look outside the box and explore faith through a whole new set of eyes. Bell's words encouraged me and inspired me. He really is the kind of Christian I would like to be and this book more than reflects that. My favorite parts were the epilogue, and the chapters entitled Rabbis and Unleashing a Monster. I wholeheartedly recomend it.

Book Review: not for your typical non criticial thinking christian
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is life changing for the born again believer who is burnt out with todays typical church in America or just honest enough to admit the church in America is for our parents generation but out of touch with the emotionally intelligent "question everything" philosophy of today. This new generation has seen that it is not true that if you do the "right thing" for not the right reasons it will all work out in the end or if you honor your employer in the end they will take care of you. I.E. Enron, PanAm and so on. I challenge you to read and rethink your faith for yourself, not your parents or the church. I love the "Church" but I strongly dislike church people, if you are at where Im at.

Book Review: I'm a rabid fan of Rob Bell - and this book is sooo coool.
Summary: 5 Stars

OK, this book is so cool - (and I'm not just saying that because I am a Flight Attendant who has a disdain for most "religious Books".) If you are someone who wonders if "cool christian" is an oxymoron - get this book and let it change your mind. Or if you are someone who has a faith that is functioning in the real world and you are wondering if there are any other like minded people out there - get this book and let it encourage you. I want you to buy this book right now, or the audio of it - and then fasten your seat belts and enjoy the flight into a deeper faith.

And that's all I'm saying - I can't force you to buy the book. I'm just saying it's a dang cool read.
