Book Reviews of Vamped: A NovelBook Review: Overall a great read...I just hated the ending. Summary: 4 StarsEnter a world where vampires rule the land and everyone you meet shares your toothy grin. Humans are rare, and are only found at a special sort of farm that holds them. So when Martin Kowalski is driving down the road, getting ready to kill himself, he's pretty shocked to find a six year old human girl named Isuzu Trooper Cassidy. It seems that Isuzu and her mother ran away from the farm, sadly only Isuzu survived.
When Isuzu sees Martin, she does what any normal human would do. She stabs him and runs. Martin catches her and instead of killing her, he decides to keep her. At first so he can kill her later when he gains her trust, but he falls for Isuzu and decides to raise her like his own.
Vamped is a heart warming story about a vampire raising a human child. It's cute and it's touching in some parts. There is a scene where Martin yells at Isuzu, so to make it up to her he plays cards and lets her win. The relationship between the two is the best part of this novel. Watching both grow and learn to care and love each other was sweet, but it also felt very real.
One of my favourite scenes between the two was when Isuzu gets her first period. She thinks she's dying and calls for help. Martin comes to her rescue. At first he teases her about it, but starts to feel like a guy all of a sudden and is a bit uneasy with the situation.
The story is well written, funny, and adds a new twist to the vampire lore. I loved the idea of Screamers, kids who are vampires. I remember reading Interview with a Vampire and thinking how sad it would be if I was in Claudia's shoes. If I was in her position, I'd be mighty pissed being a kid for the rest of my eternity. It seems like Sosnowski was was on the same wavelength as me when he came up with the idea of Screamers.
That being said, my only problem with Vamped was the ending. It almost felt like Sosnowski wanted a feel good ending for everyone, which didn't sit well with me. It was a little too cheesy for my liking and it felt a little rushed.
When you take out vampires out of the equation, it's basically a heart warming father-daughter story, so for that I enjoyed the book. I just wish that the story didn't end the way it did.
4/5
