This is an awesome book. I saw this book when I was in Berlin but couldn't buy it cuz it wouldn't fit in my suitcase (it's a big book). First thing I did when I got back stateside was order it. The photographs and layout are amazing. The photography is the urban art. The focus is on the photography and it's artistic merit more so than the graffiti it features. It's not a graffiti book per se, it doesn't focus on pieces and burners. I'm kind of burnt out on graffiti and street art books but this is a whole other kind of animal and one i can revisit often.
Summary of Urban Art Photography
Urban centres such as Barcelona, Paris and Berlin are places whose landscapesare characterised by anonymously created artwork and signatures that
are inventing new visual codes. This street art is much more than mere graffiti.
In addition to using spray paint, today s enterprising urban artists use stencils,
wheat paste and found objects to manifest their ideas. They work in an interdisciplinary
way and are often creative nomads travelling and working their way
through cities around the world.
Berlin is a particularly strong magnet for international street artists, inviting them
to leave their mark. But the impressions that they leave are inevitably fleeting
as their art falls victim to the city s unrelenting development. Luckily, editor and
street artist J�¼rgen Grosse has worked with Michael Bonk for years to track and
archive Berlin s urban art.
