This book contains some of the most beautiful and well-written poems on the subject of coal miners and their families. James B. Goode was born and raised in Eastern Kentucky. He grew up in a mining camp because his father was a miner.
What makes Goode's poems different, is that he explores the life of a miner with a theme of family ties.

Up from the Mines is a book of poetry, enhanced by more than fifty photographs by Malcolm J. Wilson. This book celebrates the experience of the Appalachian coal miner.
