Book Review: A Heartfelt Touch of Reality

Until They Bring the Street Cars Back is not a comedy nor a romantic love story, but it's definitely a must read. Stanley Gordon West truly outdid himself with this heart felt, eye opening novel of reality. It reminds me of a Hallmark movie with an emotional life lesson attached to it.
The book takes place in St. Paul, Minnesota and centers around Cal, a high school senior who is relatively popular, and Gretchen, or Gretch the Wretch as some kids call her. Stanley Gordon West, through the eyes of Cal, does an amazing job of capturing the emotions of his readers. My own heart felt for Cal as he experienced the agony of love, the heartbreak of his lasts of high school, and his undying commitment to help Gretchen.
I couldn't put this book down. You hit a point where you have to finish it, where you are reading so fast to find out what happens next that you start to almost skim the words! The characters, setting, and plot truly came to life for me. Stanley Gordon West doesn't make this book into a fantasy or an exaggeration of life; he simply tells it as it is. I could connect with Cal and felt as if the experiences in the novel could have taken place in my own school.
Until They Bring the Street Cars Back will open your eyes to the hardships of life and the barriers we must cross. Streetcars shows how rewarding it can be to put someone else's life ahead of your own. It also proves that even simple acts of kindness can go along way. If you want a sincere novel whose characters will stick with you for weeks after you turn the last page, then you should definitely check out Streetcars.
