I've been going to the U.P. since before there was a bridge. Stone collecting is one of my favorite "to do" things when traveling the Superior shore. Karen's book Understanding and Finding Agates is a "must have" if you wish to know the history, and to help you identify your new found treasures. I've been to Karen's "Museum", and have met her in person. A most wonderful, and knowledgeble person. Visit Grand Marais, Michigan, and say Hello to Karen.
Summary of Understanding and Finding Agates
Agates can be found in all 50 states, that is if you understand what to look for. This book was developed to help you to think like an agate so that you can be successful in finding them. The book includes a basic description of agates, a summary of how agates formed, and a written version of the agate class that is offered on-site at the Gitche Gumee Agate and History Museum in Grand Marais, MI.
