Book Reviews of Undead and Unworthy (Queen Betsy, Book 7)

Book Review: Yep, Unworthy, Alright
Summary: 3 Stars

Let's face it when we read about Betsy Taylor Queen of the Dead we want a quirky, perky, funny story like we've previously been delivered and come to depend on. The quality of the story camouflaged the horrendous sticker shock of such short books!

This time we get some cover that looks like the artist never read the book and a short story that never fully delivers. I mean, it was O.K. But we don't want O.K. from our favorite authors. We want magic. And it annoyed me that I missed one anthology where apparently Betsy and Sinclair honeymooned and I felt majorly left out.

I'm not horrified because some of the characters die. You kind of expected it to happen eventually. But there were several editing errors- and I don't mean spelling or grammar, but storyline. And the whole vibe of the book was kind of flat. There can be darkness in Betsy's life, I mean we readers were there when Betsy got rammed by an Aztec and died saving her cat, that's a tear-jerker. But( hoping I don't sound sick) it was an entertaining tear-jerker that was really well written. Give us more of that.

Book Review: I Need A Change!
Summary: 3 Stars

When I started reading this series I thought Betsy was entertaining and funny. I liked her little quirks because they made her unique and fun to read. Well, now it has turned into that relationship that has lasted to long and all I want to do is slap her. Not only that, I want to go to the Monster Mansion and slap the lot of them. I would tell Betsy to grow up and learn how to protect herself! Take your roll as Queen seriously and stick up for yourself!!! I would tell Sinclair to stop being such an A**. Trust your wife and help her and maybe she will become a better Queen. I would stick a gun in Nicks face and tell him he needs to find help because he needs to talk about his feelings.

I did end up giving the book three stars because I liked how the series began and I can't give up hope that something interesting will happen. Maybe we will see some character growth or the story will get better. It's such an easy series to read. Something I can finish in a couple of hours and I just know I will buy the next one.

Book Review: Not a huge fan of this add-on
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm not sure who this book was written for. I love all the Queen Betsy books before it, so I felt obligated to read the next one even though everyone told me not to.

But unlike everyone else, I'm not devastated by the deaths in the book. Honestly, that storyline was played out anyway. I agree that Nick is a whiney little brat and I hope he dies in a painful way in the next book, but if he doesn't, I hope he is written out.

However, this was the most re-cappy book I've ever read! There are pages, PAGES I SAY, of straight recap from the other books. Why? I don't know. No one starts reading a series at book #7, and if someone does, they deserve to be confused! To think, there was so many words wasted on telling us what already happened when MJD should have been giving us more plot, because this book is plot-lite.

Anyway, it took me only a few hours to blow through this book, and I'm glad I did. I just hope the next one is written for us fans. C'mon MJD!

Book Review: Repetitive... And redundant...
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm a big fan of the Vampire Queen series. And I also understand that with any series, the author must reiterate certain key facts from previous installments in order to entice readers to read earlier books if they haven't already. That being said, I felt like the majority of this seventh Betsy Taylor novel was recap. There wasn't a very compelling storyline at the heart of this novel and Ms. Davidson even went so far as to recap her recaps, both at the start of the story and then in later chapters. "Too much of a good thing..."

The author's foreword did note that this installment begins a new story arc for Betsy and her various sidekicks. And I do feel like there's a lot of potential to propel this series foreword. But, I sincerely hope that the individual episodes in each novel take precedence going forward. Otherwise, I might find that I "stake" this series and look elsewhere for my vampiric entertainment.

Book Review: I too was disappointed
Summary: 3 Stars

Let me start off by saying i have read every mjd book out there. And betsy started of very strong as a series but i would not spend money on the hard cover books. I get mine from the library because they are just not worth the cash. The book goes into to many directions without getting to the point and the end fells rushed. I hope her next one is better then this. I miss the lol in this and the last book.
