Book Review: Cute stories

Bought this book because I was told that my Great Great Grandmother would read Uncle Remus & Uncle Wiggily stories to her great grandchildren. This was in the 1940's. Since I never met her I wanted to get the book to see what kind of stories she was reading to my aunts and uncles. The main character, a gentleman rabbit with a striped cane, who understands people speak but cannot speak himself, gets around to helping children with their problems despite his rheumatoid arthritis. I've only read the first 3 stories. One is about helping a boy with a toothache, helping him get over his fear of going to the dentist. Another story is about a little girl who doesn't like her freckles and wishes she didn't have them at all. He shows her little freckled bird eggs and she sees how cute they are and the when the chicks hatch she realizes her freckles are pretty. I wish I could say these are the same problems our children face today. Sometimes they do but our children are under constant assault from far worse. Still the stories are refreshing, simple and carry themes that still apply. No need for "cool," ipod toting demi-gods or vampires. These are classic tales and I really enjoy the animal life having positive effects on the little ones. I recommend.
