Book Reviews of Ultra Black Hair Growth II 2000 EditionBook Review: This Book Works! Summary: 5 Stars
I first read Cathy Howse's book several months ago. Since then, my hair has grown several inches (is now shoulder length- and mind you, has never been)and is extremely soft and healthy.Cathy's book has helped me to take back control of my hair. No longer am I spending ridiculous amounts of money going to a hairdresser every week trying to get my hair to grow or paying for excess services that seem to do more harm than help to my hair. I am growing it myself!!!!!! I think it is great that this book doesn't TELL you what brand of moisturizers or conditioners to get. That's the PROBLEM Black Women- for decades companies have made money off us with false promises long, healthy hair through using their product; It's called marketing. Instead Cathy arms you with the ingredients that you need to look for in hair care products that will promote strength and elasticity to chemically-treated hair. She educates the consumer to got to a store or salon and pick what is best for their hair (which is not always the most expensive product), not allowing someone else to make that decision for you. Frankly, I would purchase Cathy Howse's book before Barry Fletcher or any other hairdresser out there (I have read Barry's book- can't compare). Cathy speaks from the consumer point-of-view and for someone who has not had any formal hair care training, she is on the money. And I have a head-full of hair to prove it!!!
Book Review: Just in the nick of Time! Summary: 5 Stars
"Ultra Black Hair Growth 2000" is a book every woman, hairdresser/stylist should read. Ms. Howse's "common sense approach" to black hair growth will enlightened any one who reads her book. You will see results if you follow the program the book suggests. After I purchased and read the book and began to follow the steps as stated in the book, within a very short time I began to see and feel a difference in not only my hair but my daughter's hair as well. It was in the nick of time because I was about to have my hair cut very, very short and I did not want to do so. I was searching for information to help me with the problems I was having with hair breakage, dry itchy scalp, and damaged hair. The "common sense approach" made sense to me. I have changed my overall hair care regimen, (caring for total me also). So I say to woman who likes to keep her "mane" together, looking its best, "Ultra Black Hair 2000" is a "must have." The book is very easy to read and follow. Once you begin to read it, you won't stop until you have read the book cover-to-cover. This is not a book on hair styles, so don't even go there, but if you are looking for sound advice, go ahead and buy the one book that makes sense. Thank you again, Ms. Howse for sharing your wealth of information on the subject of hair growth and hair care. May God continue to bless you.
Book Review: IT WORKS! Summary: 5 Stars
I cut my hair very short several years ago and after becoming tired of the style, I began searching for information on growing my hair back as quickly as possible. I stumbled upon Cathy's book and after reading it and following all of the steps she lays out I have not only grown my hair back to the length it was prior to cutting it but my hair is longer, 4" past my shoulders, and more healthy than it has ever been. This book and Cathy's products are a Godsend. The Book is very easy to read and her system is an easy one to follow. What I appreciated most about the book is that it gives good information about caring for our hair that can be used no matter what style you choose to wear your hair in or what products you choose to use. Though Cathy has a line of hair care products that are amazing her book is not focused on selling her products but rather informing the reader about what qualities they should look for when choosing products. There is nothing on the market that comes close to matching hers in quality and effectiveness and I have tried a lot of products and read a lot of books. Many of the principles she sets forth are hard to swallow at first because we have been fed so much misinformation about our hair and how to care for it, but if you would hold your skepticism and give it a try you will be pleased with the results.
Book Review: A REAL book for REAL people... Summary: 5 Stars
I strongly disagree with the person who felt the book was poorly written. It is true that this is not a "text book" on hair care, but I actually appreciate that. Cathy's book does not attempt to dazzle the reader with expansive vocabulary, but instead serves to inform, inspire and motivate the reader. I find her conversational approach to be extremely refreshing! She presents her methods in simple terms that are easily understood. I agree with the reader who appreciates that there is no need to fumble with an index. Throughout this book, key points are summarized and highlighted so that the reader will remember them I also want to dispell a false and uneducated statement that was made by another "reader" through this forum. Urea is NOT urine! Although urea is a natural component found in urine, urea is also commercially produced by dehydrating ammonium carbomate under high temperature and pressure. It is, in fact, an extremely effective moisturizer used in skin and hair care products and has nothing whatsoever to do with urine. Just because salt is found in perspiration does not mean that salt comes from perspiration. UBH products contain no mammal urine! I encourage everyone to read this book! It is informative and easy to read... and most importantly, Cathy's method really works!
Book Review: The haters must be nuts.... Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using Cathy's system for about 6 years now. I have NEVER seen such results as the ones I've gotten with her system. I used to be ecstatic if my hair brushed my shoulders, now it's well down my middle back. No trimming or "super vitamin grease" ever did that for me. For the critics who say her book is nothing more than common sense, they are right--it is common sense, but sense isn't always so common. If it were, all Black women who wanted long hair would have it by now. Black women have bought into a media driven pack of lies that advocated trimming and alot of useless stuff to put in our hair to make it grow, and because no one had the gall to stand up and say the obvious (IT'S NOT WORKING!) we've had generation after generation of women doing the same useless, damaging stuff to our hair, year after fruitless year, wasting time, money and hair. As for Cathy promoting her own products, I say go ahead!!! Her conditioner is one of the best I've ever used although there are others that can also work with a minute amount of research. The knowledge she gives more than offsets the price she asks for her own personally developed products.
What really kills me are the folks who are leaving negative reviews and have never read the book or tried the system.
