Book Reviews of Ultimate Beer

Book Review: Awesome info and pictures of Beer
Summary: 5 Stars

When I received this book I was overwhelmed at how well written it was. This book is filled with a lot of great details and images of all different beers. If you are a beer connoisseur then this is a must for your library. Michael Jackson is by far the world's best beer critic.

Book Review: Ultimate Beer is like Buttah!
Summary: 5 Stars

I LOVE "Ultimate Beer." My friends at work have been passing it around and I doubt I'll ever get the book back. The recipes are unique and challenging and I plan to try some out when I can get the book away from my boss.

Great Book

Book Review: The Joy of Drinking Beer
Summary: 4 Stars

"Ultimate Beer" by Michael Jackson, is a great book to acquaint the curious beer drinker with the unique characteristics and styles that are available. Beer is no longer the boring, "they all taste the same" beverage that it was in the United States for so long. Thanks to the microbrewing revolution, beer is now the equivalent of wine in respect to its diversity and its adaptability to many occasions.

The best part of this book is the illustrations. Each beer is presented in a section with similar beer styles, complete with a picture of the bottle and a picture of a glass filled with that particular brand of beer. There is also a food/occasion section with more pictures of beer along with the food that it best accomodates.

This book provides a good reference to the many styles of beer, the brewing process, and the compatibility of beer to any taste or occasion. Take notice: after you read this book and look at those full glasses of beer, you will have an uncontrollable urge to head to the nearest beverage store!

Book Review: Not Michael Jackson's Ultimate Beer book
Summary: 4 Stars

Michael Jackson is an excellent researcher, writer and presenter and his new book is well worth the read, but is not his best and should take nothing away from scores of other excellent books now available. Highly recommended is The Ale Trail or, in fact, any title by British authority, Roger Protz or Canadian author Steven Beaumont and works by American writers Mosher, Finkel, Papazian, Daniels, Finch, Meyers and Yenne. Beware of authors who tell you which beer to drink. The best authors teach you how to make that decision on your own. There are other great sources of authoritative beer information including All about Beer Magazine, Celebrator Beer News and The Real Beer Page web sight.

Jackson's poorly titled new book looks a lot like the other "Ultimate" books in the first sections where scores of bottle and glass shots fill the pages, but offers, like his much better, if not slightly less glossy, Beer Companion, excellent information about beer and food pairing in the last quarter of the book.
