Book Reviews of Twitter Marketing: An Hour a DayBook Review: It was so beneficial I upped it to two hours a day! Summary: 5 Stars
I won Twitter Marketing An Hour A Day from a contest that was being held on Twitter by Hollis Thomases and her marketing firm Web Ad.vantage. When I first heard about it my natural instinct was to poo-poo it and categorize it with all the other how-to books for marketing. They usually just reiterate a bunch of tried and true marketing information into yet another book that doesn't do a thing for your marketing (except waste more of your already dwindling budget).
I met Hollis several years ago on a flight back from a trade show. When I first started using Twitter Hollis was one of the first people I stumbled upon... When I saw Hollis' name on Twitter I was taken aback. "Hey I know this person!" It was the first of many more instances where I came across people I knew, or people who's work or contributions to the world I admired, on Twitter. Jeff Pulver refers to this effect as the Serendipity of social media.
Since I knew Hollis, and I knew she had a successful marketing agency [...] I figured she knew what she was talking about. I made her one of the first people I followed on Twitter. As Hollis and I got to know each other a little better through our tweets and exchange of a few messages I came to learn she was getting ready to publish this book and head out on a junket to promote it across the country.
Although I've only read about 1/4 of her book (which contains more relevant info than most other marketing books) I've benefited greatly from it... Although I won an autographed copy on Twitter due to one of my brilliant answers to one of Hollis' marketing questions, I would gladly pay double for this book's selling price.
If you are new to social media marketing and new to Twitter and want to find out whats its all about, BUY THIS BOOK! If you're a member of the the Twitterati and know Social Media inside and out, BUY THIS BOOK! In the first few chapters you'll get a rundown on how Twitter came to be, how it works, why you should use it and how it would benefit almost any business.
After the intro the book guides you step by step to set up an account, setup goals and other exercises that will have you tweeting in no time! This isn't just a buncha pap either... It's not like OK do this, now do this and now that...
This book explains they whys, hows and reasoning behind the explanations. This is not just a buncha exercises with no results. As you move through the book you'll start seeing tangible results and reap the rewards of your Hour A Day exercise on Twitter.
If I had one marketing book to buy this year, it would be this book! I've read a bunch of these marketing books so far this year, along with hundreds of articles on marketing utilizing social media. Those are great for a quick read and some basic overview information or advice. But none I have read matches the thoroughness or depth of Twitter Marketing An Hour A Day.
Those who know me know that I'm not much into pushing stuff I don't believe in or haven't had firsthand experience with. However, I highly rate this book and can unequivocally endorse Hollis, her agency and this book! If you put one book on your shopping list related to social media marketing make it this one!
Happy Summer Reading
