Book Review: The effort was just not that rewarding
Summary: 2 Stars
For all the time consumed in rolling the very narrow strips, the coils produced were very small, not at all the size suggested by the book's cover. It is difficult to keep a slippery strip on the quilling pin, and once a coil is finished, it is less than 1/2" in diameter. We never figured out how such a small circle of paper could be shaped into fins, wings, etc. There were few actual directions for making most of the illustrations. Once the kids started extracting individual paper strips, all the strips started 'spronging' loose and were impossible to get back into a neat array. The glue was oddly chalky and the google eyes were tiny, about 1/8" in diameter. All in all, neither an engaging nor satisfying craft activity for 7/8 year-olds. The books have been abandoned on the coffee table. Maybe the little paper strips can be twisted & curled for use as decorations on my miniature Christmas tree.
