Book Reviews of Tuck Everlasting

Book Review: A shining example of children's lit and a captivating tale
Summary: 5 Stars

I decided to finally read this book after my mother, a 5th grade teacher, told me it was her class' next read-aloud. I just cannot believe that none of my own upper elementary school teachers ever selected this as a class novel! I'm so glad I finally had a chance to read this one...to me, it is the perfect example of what good children's literature should be. It is superbly written, full of stunning imagery, and it tells a tale that is completely captivating. Babbitt certainly is blessed with a gift for writing amazingly well-crafted children's novels. I still cannot get over her use of language and imagery! That first passage in the prologue is just fantastic. I will definitely keep this one in mind for a read-aloud in my own classroom someday. I would absolutely recommend this novel to all readers out there, whatever your age may be!

Book Review: LItland.com loves Tuck Everlasting!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent book for families to read together. It is appropriate for all ages, although of most interest to readers in 5th-8th grades. Choosing this story for your family reading hour or book club will give you much to talk through, and grow together as a family. It would also be an excellent teacher choice for in-class reading. In either the home or school settings, this book would be useful in an integrated curriculum using literature to learn about American history in the 19th century. Talking about books such as Tuck Everlasting is an important part of understanding and growing in our own value system, while also giving concrete examples for good behaviour to emulate. We cannot say enough about this great book! See our full review at [...] and commentary to discuss the book at [...] Tell us what you think of it!

Book Review: Magical and Unexpected
Summary: 5 Stars

This novel is magical and has many unexpected events. It's about a 10-year old girl, Winnie, who has really never left her house, always under the eyes of her Mother, Father, and her Grandmother. One day she runs away from her house to the wood she owns behind her house. There, she meets a strange, but loving family, the Tucks. They turn out to be immortal and take Winnie back to their little house deep in the woods. They do this to make sure Winnie knows not to tell anyone their secret.

There are many strange events which are very unexpected like, someone supposedly knowing the Tuck's secret, and many more! Also, there's an immense twist at the end of the story. I would recommend this novel to kids and adults of all ages. This story is enchanting, magical, heart-breaking, and unexpected.

Book Review: A Must Read
Summary: 5 Stars

I didn't read this book until I took Young Adult Lit in college. By that time I had children who were in the age range for which this book is recommended. I was fascinated with this book and have read it more than once. I raved about this book and had my kids read it and recommended it to every kid in the library. I think adults may appreaciate it more than children will although my daughter loved it even when she was young. It's a wonderful fantasy story but also very thought provoking. Young people can read it just for the fun story but it's one that will stick with them and they will remember it later. It makes adults think twice about each day in their life. The movie was okay but it didn't do the book justice. I totally recommend reading the book. (I kept looking for the frog in the movie.)
