Book Reviews of True Norwegian Black Metal

Book Review: Black Metal receives an appropriately artful treatment
Summary: 5 Stars

Peter Beste has made this book an essential photographic record for fans of the genre and anyone interested or curious about it. Although the inherently extreme nature of black metal symbolism makes for an easy target this collection presents the subject matter through crisp, stunning visuals and an overall volume that's made with class and objectivity, if perhaps some enhancement of the philosophy behind the music with several grand quotes. This book also includes a great timeline of the black metal genre as well as a collection of tabloid-style newspaper and magazine (Kerrang, for one) feature articles regarding the "bad old days" of Norwegian black metal.
If you've listened to black metal for years, are just starting, or are curious about the genre, go ahead and pick this up. It's well worth every dollar of Amazon's reduced price tag.

Book Review: Best deal so far
Summary: 5 Stars

This was so far my favorite deal i have gotten on amazon. Usually this bok gose for over 50. i was able to find a used copy for 17. It was used but the seller said "like new" so I thought "whu not" and just try my luck.
The book arived in a week and it was in exilent condition "like new" seemed new to me. The book was not damaged in anyway the shipping costs were not to high due to the size of the book and it being hard cover.

All and all a great experience, the book is great the seller was fast the sale couldnt of went any better. I look at this look in stores now and see the 50 dollar tag and just laph, Amazon has a customer for life with this perchase, why go to a store and pay top price it just makes no sence.

Book Review: Gr1m, kvlt, and fr0stbitten! (Did I mention tr00?)
Summary: 5 Stars

First of all this book is huge (4 pounds!). Second of all it's full of black metal! It's mostly photography (obviously) but there are also some articles and letters and such. There are a couple (unintentionally) hilarious photos in there, too. For example, there is a great image of this black metal guy trying to look all evil, but there's some old lady walking by giving a disgusted look. Besides making me chuckle, it really does sum up how the average Norwegian feels about the whole scene. But I digress. I suggest you dig up some Immortal (or CoF for you posers out there), pour thyself a chalice of virgin's blood, light some candles, and grimly frown whilst you read this book!

Book Review: Cool as hell!
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are a fan of Black Metal, you probably already have this, but even if you don't know and love the music, this book is still worth purchasing. The photos and presentation are gorgeous, and I was happy as hell with the book even before I reached the last few pages which offer a quick historical record of the rise of Black Metal, from a smiling Euronymous and Count Grisnackt, to the early magazine articles, burning churches and through the aftermath of the infamous homicide. Horror fans will also enjoy the images in this book; it looks like stills from the greatest horror movie never made. Truly inspirational!

Book Review: A glimpse into another world...
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been listening to black metal since I was 13; eleven years later I am still an avid BM fan. In this genre of extreme metal there are many names that get thrown around and many stories that are told. It is a genre born from over-the-top imagery, lyrics and theatrics. A genre fueled by hatred and nihilism, solitude and depression. This book offers a glimpse into this dark, cold, often absurd world. The pictures capture so much of what the genre is about, and are an excellent companion to the music itself. If you enjoy black metal or are even intrigued by the world of BM, than this book is a must buy.
