Book Review: An Insider's View of the Story

I recently read this book, and then re-read it. There is so much information in it that one needs a map and a graph to trace the various threads of this remarkable story of Michael's life...and what happened behind the scenes. It truly gives one a view of the underbelly of the music business - and as I am a professional classical musician associated with the top icons in that field, I was most intrigued by this writer's point of view. I have long felt that Sony had much to do with the chain of events, and also that Michael's purchase of that ATV catalogue would prove ruinous to him in the long run. There was and still is SO much money involved in his career, name, music, etc., that the temptations are mostly too strong for most people. And there were vultures just ready to pounce. It is interesting that Michael left Sony several years ago, also believing that the masters of his songs would return to him in the near future...but he was misled. And now Sony is profiting from everything connected to Michael Jackson, including the movie, the CDs and the DVDs. There were indeed many people who did not want to see him on top again..and he was sacrificed for his excellence. It is no secret that most people cannot stand to see someone stand tall above everyone else, and that is where Michael Jackson stood.I still have a NY Times article that states: 'in the world of pop music, there is Michael Jackson, and then there is everybody else." He was but 25 years old at the time, and a force to be reckoned with. I have never met a more gifted individual in music: (composing, singing, dancing, directing music videos, writing, etc.,) and am sure I never will again. We are fortunate to have lived in his time - he was like a Mozart or a Beethoven in his field. I feel fortunate to have met him, and spent time with him. And he was such a good man as well. What else can one want? Mr. Guest has knowledge and a point of view that few have, and this book is a 'must' for those who seek truth.
