Book Review: Still well loved
Summary: 5 Stars
We received this originally as a gift for my then year-old daughter. The sparkly snow on the front cover was very attractive to her as a baby. Now that she's two she still loves it and requests it often as a bed-time story. We have given this as a gift to other kids on their birthdays, with great reviews. All the Toot & Puddle books are great, but this is a particularly good one to start with because it's shorter and less wordy than the others. Plus it features planes, trains, buses and bicycles, which are fun to talk about with young toddlers. It's also, by the way, a great book to give if anyone in the house speaks French or can fake it to funny effect, as Toot winds up in Coucou Poche, Provence.
"Wish You Were Here," about plants and being sick, or the first Toot & Puddle, which has monthly postcards from Toot, have become more interesting as my daughter gets a little older. Also take a look at Llama Llama Red Pajama, another top favorite.
Summary of Top of the World (Toot & Puddle)
When Puddle wakes up one morning Toot is missing! Where can he be? Although Puddle prefers to stay home in Woodcock Pocket, his concern for his best friend prompts him to set off. Puddle takes a train... a plane... and eventually finds himself in a far-away place. And who do you think he finds?Holly Hobbie's story of a friendship that extends to the top of the world will be welcomed by the many fans of Toot & Puddle.
Toot and Puddle fans, rejoice! The lovable pigs are back in a touching tale of friendship lost and found--literally. The story begins with a note from Toot, "Puds, Gone for a walk. Be back soon. T." But he doesn't get back soon (no surprise to Toot and Puddle fans), and by dinnertime, Toot is worried. He heads into the night, searching everywhere. He decides to think like his buddy to track him down, so he hops a train, then a bus, then gets on an airplane to Provence. And, what's this? "'Bonjour, mon ami!' Toot cheered." Once together, they head for Nepal, naturally, for the top of the world. And then they get homesick. Hollie Hobbie's gentle watercolors are as charming as ever.
