Book Reviews of To Hell and Back: An AutobiographyBook Review: The Man is back and better than ever Summary: 4 Stars
I really enjoyed this book. It seems that Meat's life is intertwined with the very history of rock and roll, nay The United States! I too noted the similarity to Forrest Gump. Makes you wonder...Although his egotism and temper nearly caused his downfall in the early 80's; the experiences of his life served to give him the strength of character to continually bounce back and emerge better than ever. He is widely touted among the fans as being a friendly, approachable and affectionate. It is not just in his autobiography but in his music as well that one gets to know the person, Meat Loaf. His story serves as positive proof that the human spirit is capable of great things and following your heart is an integral part of happiness in your life. As he once said, "Success isn't about how much money you make or how many albums you sell; it's about doing what makes you happy."
Book Review: Larger Than Life? You bet! Summary: 4 Stars
It seems that every experlative known to man has been used to describe Meat Loaf at some time or another. In this book he takes you briskly through a life story that confirms almost everything you've ever heard or thought about him. This incredible tale gives us insight into one of rock's true sagas. A vastly enjoyable, not too taxing read, the book leaves you rooting for him to conquer the world for a third time! I for one hope he does!
Book Review: An Inspiring Journey Summary: 4 Stars
This book is an inspiring journey through the incredibly difficult life of one rock's most compelling singers. The format of the book makes you feel like you are sitting with Meat as he reminisces about his amazing and very difficult life. Although it follows a roughly chronological order, any of the stories can be read by themselves and enjoyed. Very interesting and entertaining.
Book Review: larger than life, and now we know why... Summary: 4 Stars
The book still doesn't cover the whole story, but to finally hear the words from his own mouth is what we have been asking for. From meeting Manson, to the concussions, and records label turndowns, the book is thorough and very witty. One thing though, I have made room on my bookshelf for volume two, because we all know this larger than life rocker isn't done yet!
Book Review: Add writer to Meat Loaf's list of talents Summary: 4 Stars
Meat can sure tell a story. I like the way the book is set up in a lot of little chapters that overlap in time. It's refreshing after reading the trite format of most other biographies. There are two things I would have liked: captions on the pictures and to see the picture of Meat in fishnet stocking from Rocky Horror!
