Book Reviews of To Hell and Back: An AutobiographyBook Review: Meat Loaf - The Great Storyteller Summary: 5 Stars
Finally, we Meat Loaf fans can take an in depth look at our beloved Rock icon! Meat shows not only his talent as a storyteller, but shines with his wit and unquenched spirit in light of some pretty nasty circumstances! This book...this man's life..is the ultimate 'don't give up no matter what' story. We've all had hints of that, but you don't realize everything...you don't know everything...until you sit down and read this book. With some distance now, (but obviously still effected by the events) Meat is able to relate the circumstances of his childhood and his struggle as a young actor/musician, talk of his early fame and inability to cope, and finally of his triumphant return. This is an inspiring book, told in such a wonderful way that you will feel like Meat is sitting at the kitchen table with you, telling you these stories over spring water!

Book Review: A Hell of a Story Summary: 5 Stars
Forget the writing style and the lack of photo captions. There are zillions of photos, and captions are included in the back in my paperback edition. This is one amazing story, proving that life is more interesting than fiction. If you have ever gone crazy listening to a ML song or concert, read this book. If you ever wondered why ML disappeared from the music scene for years, read this book. ML got his start on Broadway (Hair and Rocky Horror). He is really an actor, which explains why his performances are such productions. In fact, he is currently focusing on acting and recently appeared in the movie "The Fight Club." He explains his long relationship with the amazing songwriter Jim Steinman. This is story of childhood angst, perseverance, corporate exploitation, and ultimate triumph. If you are at all curious about the story behind the man and the songs, read this book.
Book Review: TO HELL AND BACK!! WHAT AN EXCELLENT TRIP!!! Summary: 5 Stars
The story of the larger than life rock-n-roll star Meat Loaf is totally enthralling. Once I started reading the book, I couldn't put it down. He went from being a nobody in Dallas to one of the biggest rock-n-roll stars of all times. Tragically that all came to an end early on in his career due to alcohol, drugs, and bankruptcy. Even through all of this Meat Loaf never gave up. Eventually he turned his life around and began his rise back into the spotlight where he has stayed since the release of Bat II. It's amazing that one person could live through all of this and still have the gusto and will to perform. Even after it all Meat is a very kind, caring, and easily aproachable person. He makes his fans feel very comfortable in his presence. This book is GREAT!!!
Book Review: Never disappointing Summary: 5 Stars
I just finished the book and LOVED it! I'm not much of a reader of biographies (they often-times become one-sided mud slingings) but this one I found enchanting. Meat told his story and was, I believe, sensitive to others mentioned in the book. Some of the chapters seemed choppy, but then you can't encapsulate an entire life in a few hundred pages without that. I thought I admired the man before, but I admire him even more after reading the book. The book raises so many more questions, like whatever happened to his dad (I don't remember that being mentioned). But, I'm not a fan to trample on a person's privacy. I feel fortunate he's shared what he did.
