Book Reviews of Tis: A MemoirBook Review: Tis a good book Summary: 3 Stars
A continuance to McCourt's book Angela' Ashes, Tis is also a great book, however I do think that his first book is the best. Within the pages of Tis I found myself expecting his life to get better but at the end of each chapter I felt like maybe the next one will be better or better for him. Angela's Ashes was gold and I was probably expecting the same with Tis, don't get me wrong it is worth reading especially to find out what happens when he arrives in New York, but I guess me like so many others just wanted a big happy ending like winning the lottery and returning to Ireland to save all his family or something.
Book Review: Good, but language offensive. Summary: 3 Stars
My husband and I enjoyed this book for its history of living in New York and the struggles involved in finding employment and trying to keep a marriage alive. However, the language and hugh amount of the need to continually turn to alcohol to solve problems seems to get in the way of a good story.
Book Review: "Tis" good Summary: 3 Stars
This was a good book but not something I would care to re read.
It gets predictable in a lot of ways.
Book Review: Disappointed. Reads like it was copied from a daily log. Summary: 2 Stars
All the sentiment, emotion and spirit of Angela's Ashes is gone and in it's place is a tale of resentment and anger. I thought Angela's Ashes was written with a sense of pride and understanding but neither can be found in McCourt's TIS. TIS contains too much whining and complaining and not enough inspiration to be recommended. This book is depressing enough to make Oprah Winfrey's book list.
Book Review: 'Tis Summary: 1 Stars
Having fallen in love with Frnak McCourt's literary genuis after reading "Angela's Ashes", I looked forward to reading "'Tis". A friend of mine had bought the book and loaned it to me.
I was really enjoying it until I reached page 33...where it all just went berserk!! Page numbers, chapters, all out of sequence and NO WAY to rectify it to even make it readable. Here's how the pages go: page 33(supposedly END of chapter 4) then on the back of page 33 begins 42 (and the beginning of chapter 7)!! the next page is 35,and on the back of THAT page is 38...AND the beginning of chapter 6!!! And on and on it goes...and there is no way to make sense of it, nor to READ it.
What a disappointment...and what a disservice to a wonderful author!!
And SHAME on Simon and Schuster!!!! And WHAT A RIP-OFF!!!
