Book Reviews of Tipping the Velvet: A Novel

Book Review: Good book
Summary: 5 Stars

If you love lesbian fiction regardless of the era the story is being told - grab Tipping The Velvet.

A remarkably good read by Waters giving her reader a vivid picture of what the lesbian society was in the 18th century. Tipping the Velvet was not only classy and eloquent in giving us an idea of how difficult life can be as a tom, but it was worth the pages. Sensual and erotic yet nt pornish, full of drama but not melodramatic. It's fun and whimsical. Anything that you might enjoy in a good book. If you plan on reading this book, do it when you have longer time to spare.

I can't wait to grab a copy of Fingersmith and Affinity. Tipping The Velvet is definity a must have in lesbian fiction.

Book Review: as a name would suggests
Summary: 5 Stars

"Tipping the velvet" can be rather explicit at times, which as far as I'm concerned is only an added bonus, but would not alone makes a worthy read. This book fortunately has much more to offer:a great insight into the world of victorian england(late 19th century),colorful(quite rainbow like)characters and most important a terrific heroine Nancy King, who leaves her home and enbarks on an amazing journey throughout various social circles and surroundings of London.Sarah Walters is a captivating writer with an uncanny descriptive abilities, you might feel suddenly transformed a 100 or so years back, but it is Nan King, who will not let you put this book down,as you follow the story of a girl, who tips the velvet

Book Review: Always a Delight to Reread
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved this book, a coming-of-age story, a love story, a historical which gave a glimpse to a world I never knew existed.

I actually read this book ages ago, but wanted to give the author a nod right now, today, this very moment.

Why?

Because Amazon's new rule on sales ranking is horrid, discriminatory, all but bans brilliant books like Ms. Waters' to the back of the bus.

I wonder what the author thinks about this new rule. It infuriates me beyond belief, Amazon's lame reasoning for cutting off authors like Ms. Waters, especially after all these years. C'mon, Amazon!

Amazon just lost my sales.

Book Review: Graet debut book
Summary: 5 Stars

Although this book centers around the romance between two lesbians, I feel it is a story that everyone can relate to. The main character's journey from selfless unrequited love and betrayal, to jaded manipulator, to finding redemption and love is a universal story. Sarah Waters has a gift for writing tales that continually shock and entertain, while remaining intelligent and grounded in emotional reality. This story is sensual, heartbreaking and in the end, sweet and romantic. I highly recommend this book along with Waters' other books. Great writer!Tipping the Velvet: A Novel

Book Review: Beautiful and fascinating
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this book a few years ago based purely on the cover. I had not heard of it before, and had no prior conceptions about it before reading it. When I finally did get around to reading it I wondered how I could have just left it on the shelf for so long. Tipping The Velvet is the story of a Victorian lesbian and her adventures as she stumbles her way through life. It starts off quite gentle and romantic and becomes progressively more explicit in each section of the book. I have never read anything like it and I found it absolutely enthralling. It is not, in my opinion, a book written for lesbians, it is a book written for anyone who wants to read a wonderful story.
