Book Reviews of Through My Eyes: Ruby Bridges

Book Review: Great book
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was great; it was about Ruby Briggs experience being one of the first colored children to integrate the elementary schools in the south. It gives a wonderful perspective about how this young girl viewed racism. It also shows the reader that she did not completely understand why some many people were mean to her. It is an extreme eye opener to how strong racism was in the south, at one point it talks about grown women throwing and yelling at Ruby.

Book Review: A must-read for everyone
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is another reminder of the battles waged and obstacles faced by ordinary people during the Civil Rights struggles of the 1950s and 1960s. For those of us who were not there it really is difficult to imagine the intensity of the hatred that so many whites felt. It is disturbing to read of the vicious threats made and the horrible venom spewed at this little girl by adults who should have known better.

Book Review: Poingnant story of a child's iinnocence
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a beautifully written and emotional story of a young child's innocence and bravery though a very turbulent time in our history. This young girl viewed everything going on around her with child-like wonderment and curiosity. I think that it says a lot about how adults might do well to adopt the temperment of a child. A wonderful book to share with your children or students!

Book Review: Through My Eyes Rating
Summary: 5 Stars

I like this book because it show s how things were when people didn't like colored people. And how Ruby's mom was brave enough to let her daught go to a white school. I thought it was hurible for the people to make fun of and threting the little girl ,even the ladies and girls.

Book Review: In her own words
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an insprational story about a brave little girl told from historical accounts and through her memories years later. There are many moving photographs along with the touching story of her experiences as the only black student integrating an all white school.
