Book Reviews of Thirst: PoemsBook Review: A Spiritual Journey Summary: 5 Stars
Mary Oliver dedicated "Thirst" to her partner, Molly Malone Cook, who died in 2005. She expresses in it her love for the world by paying attention to it. The messages are positive, dynamic and uplifting.
These verses reflect her soul's generosity:
"If you want to talk about this
come to visit. I live in the house
near the corner, which I have named
Gratitude."
Joyce Akesson, author of Love's Thrilling Dimensions and The Invitation
Book Review: Astounding and the beginning of my love for Mary Oliver Summary: 5 Stars
When my father got me this book, I was a little doubtful. His opinions on good poetry and mine tend to be a little different...but I have to say that Oliver is definately my all time favorite poet, and that this is the book that started it all. If you have to start with only one of her books, I highly reccomend this one or Dream Works, if you love poetry, nature, and life (the beautiful and the painful) you will be pleased, and, I believe, made better for it.
Book Review: an oasis in a mad, mad, mad, mad, world! Summary: 5 Stars
This was our introduction to Mary Oliver. This lady has an amazing ear for words and eye for the natural world. My husband and I both read it from cover to cover in one sitting and indeed found precious moments of calm and tranquility in a stressed out world. You might look at things a little differently after reading this book. We bought copies for our friends and family for Christmas.
Book Review: Mary Oliver is a beatiful gem the world holds in its hand. Summary: 5 Stars
National treasure Mary Oliver, in a book as fierce in love as it is numinous with understandings of God and wilderness, gives us Thirst. The poems in this collection celebrate the life and death of Oliver's beloved partner of over 40 years, Molly Malone Cooke. Oliver's art, sharp and expansive, is stunning, brilliant, and made of adoration.
