Book Reviews of Then Comes Seduction (Huxtable)Book Review: Tedious at best. Summary: 2 Stars
I agree with the reviewer who was wondering if Mary Balogh had hired someone else to write this book on her behalf. Having read many of this author's books, I don't expect earth-shattering, fast-paced drama from Balogh but rather a quiet and intense one. To me, it felt like it was written on some autopilot. The story was mind-numbing and very lukewarm in terms of the H/H emotions. I was eagerly awaiting this series. Now I think I'll pass.
Book Review: Disappointed Reader Summary: 2 Stars
I love Mary Balogh as an author but this story was a bit of a disappointment for me. It had no spark or challenging crisis between the characters: Jasper and Kate. I kept putting the book down wondering why this talented author wrote a dreary lackluster story when she could add many twists and turns between the two characters. I will continue to purchase the other in these series because I am drawn more to their stories.
Book Review: Oh, come on Summary: 2 Stars
Get this. A young virginal woman takes a stroll with a known rake and minutes later is ready to engage in her first sexual experience with him. Please. And this is how the book begins and forms the basis of their story. The 'Ewww' factor alone kept me from ever really connecting with the female lead. The male lead is slightly better, but not much.
Book Review: Another Yawner Summary: 2 Stars
Either Mary Balogh has lost her touch or someone else is writing these books. The Huxtable series is off to a dull start and her books are usually anything but dull. There was a little more witty repartee in this one, but the plot was still incredibly predictable and the sex scenes had no sizzle. Yawn . . .
Book Review: I really tried.... Summary: 1 Stars
I really tried to finish this book. I actually got more than halfway through and the book just became more tedious and boring. I agree with some of the reviews that the wager the hero made at the beginning was disgusting (especially since he was a friend of the heroine's cousin) and the actions of the heroine was...umm kind of loose. Since he was really drunk when the wager was made it did not seem so bad until soberly he set out to win the bet.
But I was still okay with it because I was intrigued to how both characters were going to redeem themselves. I was looking forward to seeing how these two who had such a bad start would have a happy ending. Unfortunately, the wager and almost seduction part of the book was the most interesting part. Kate and Jasper got duller and duller the more I read and I just had to skim the last third of the book (I'm not into self torture).
I guess the major flaw in this book was that the author never flushes out the main characters. She never provides a good enough reason for Jasper's actions, he has a younger sister he loves and for that reason alone he would not make such a bet. Kate I understand she is young, naïve, looking for excitement but to let someone go that far with her within hours of meeting was not believable.
Finally, all the talk of drooping eyelids, wagers, and what is love just annoyed me and weighted the book down. Hopefully, the eldest sister's book is better (had ordered it before reading this book). Fingers crossed.
