This is a fantastic book, the author John Guest, has taken a multiplicity of sources and the time to put them together to create one of the most comprehensive pictures of the Yezidi religion I have seen (the other is Lady Drower's book). He collected his information from the British, French, Russian, Ottoman, and Vatican archives and even a few Protestant missionary societies in the US and the UK. He writes on the Yezidi origins, beliefs, way of life, and history. There are 13 chapters, an epilogue, two appendixes, 51 illustrations, a diagram of the Chol family genealogy and maps. The only thing I cannot figure out is why it is so expensive here on Amazon. Nevertheless, it is a great book that paints a picture with finely strung together words in the head of the reader about what life is like, where they live, and how it must have been to be a Yezidi in the mountains of Iraq.
