Book Reviews of The Yankee Years

Book Review: An honest overview
Summary: 5 Stars

Joe Torre's writings about his time with the Yankees was not only very informative but sincerely written with truth. A pleasure to read. The Yankees have not been the same since Mr. Steinbrenner decided it was time for Joe to go. That old saying "what goes around, comes around." Joe's book gave an excellent insight into the team and he, as a manager.

All the people I gave this book to as a gift have all said that they not only enjoyed the book but were amazed at Joe's wholehearted sincerity and honestly in his writing.

Book Review: Those were the days
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a lifelong Yankee fan, and I've seen managers come and go more times than I can remember. Usually the change from one manager to the next is not much more than a cosmetic alteration. But when the Yankees lost Joe Torre, it was the end of an era. It didn't take long for that era to look like the good old days that they were. Reading this book just made me nostalgic. The Yankees are on a roll this week, but the team that Torre led, like the stadium they played in, is gone. It's like Torre took some of the heart of the team with him.

Book Review: Ex-Yankee Fan Review
Summary: 5 Stars

Well written description of what went on in Yankee land and professional baseball in the last twelve years. In my opinion, Joe Torre is one of the classiest and competent baseball managers of all time. The treatment he received from the Yankee organization and the way they handled the whole A-Rod business is why I am no longer a devout Yankee fan. The book takes you behind the scenes and gives insight into some of the big name players of that era. Baseball has gone from "America's Pastime" to a giant, uncontrolled, greedy business.

Book Review: Heck of a book
Summary: 5 Stars

We love that we now have Joe Torre in LA, while NY and Boston can fight all they want these days. For the NYC Yankee managment to have spent all that money for spoiled players who must have given a hero like Torre fits, says it all. What a shame. You want to read a about a real hero this month on Iwo Jima's anniversary, grab a copy of WWII Navy vet Arvy Geurin's Walking Through Fire, An Iwo Jima Survivor's Remembrance

Book Review: Wow! So much more than I expected
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was very interesting, following Joe Torre from becoming manager of the Yankees to the day he left Legends Field for the final time. How his Yankee team/s compare to past yankee teams and his personal successes and failures during his time with the Steinbrenner "machine/man". Very informative, very detailed information on so many aspects of Joe Torre, The Yankees, and of George Steinbrenner and his management team. This book was far more than I expected. Tom Verducci covered all of the bases here.
